Well you had the base of deaf school, and then the local Cathloic school prolly had better supports then your average mainstream school. That's how mainstreaming should work....kids need to start out in deaf school or program and then mainstream from there.

That's right!! Just one thing, tho...no such word as mainstreaming, terps, tty's n' all dat in those days...yanno?

I remember the ones in the office at Bass Hall at VSDB and they looked ancient.

LOL yup.......Boy you should write a book about growing up at deaf school.......that would be a neat book to read!

and I wish I had graduated from deaf school. Wish I could go back and attend MSSD or ASD or at least a regional dhh program.

Ok, and I'll title it "Hearing Aids and Handcuffs"..... that'd be quite the paper axe, eh?

I see it is still tied now. It was 3 yes and 3 no when I voted. Now it is 8 yes and 8 no.

I am proud to be MSSD alumnus because I know that I received a good education. In fact, I didn’t learn anything new my first year in WSD (Wisconsin) because I was so well prepared. Moreover, attending MSSD was also a lot of fun—I have so many happy memories! I was able to become really close with all of my MSSD classmates, and I am still close with many of them—lifelong friends!

I see that kids graduated from either school are pretty close numbers of kids who graduated from deaf or mainstreamed school. I thought Most of you graduated from mainstreamed school.

No, I never went to School for the Deaf all in my life. Grew up in mainstreamed. I noticed most Deaf who graduated from Deaf school and they have no job, just stay home and get money from SSI.

You know there are several kids who graduated from mainstreamed school and received a SS benfits too. I went to deaf school all my life. I have a job and soare my friends. it depends on where states you live to be associate with those people who rely on SSI. And it depends on how parents raise them as well. My parents didnt have any forms of degrees but they had jobs and work hard. This is how my parents taught us to work hard.

Very true about depends on where states. I think ISD is worse education ever. Make sense that most of Deaf who no job due they have no parents (death, jail, leave, etc.) I agreed with you.

I think degrees do not matter about job or not. I had nice job in the past as Canon, IT, etc without degrees. Now, I have two degrees and looking for the job.

Graduated from deaf school in Australia. :)

Victoria State School for the Deaf?

It is my understanding that it is only the school for the Deaf in existence in Australia correct?

I went there for a visit with my frat brother and it was a real nice school. I loved its Victorian style main building! :D

I went to Newfoundland School for the Deaf and I felt so blessed that they offered one of the best education and computer technology along schools for the Deaf in Canada.
