Nope, not a chance for me. I do not want to enter Star Trek civilizations. My Jeep and Scout vehicles are what I want. I don't want things that require the equivalent of a powerplant mechanic, airframe mechanic, and avionics technician skills to be able to fix anything. Like airplanes or spacecraft. No thanks. I'm just your average wage earner and do not want to be forced onto the bus system. Screw it.

This is even a problem in the SUV world, where companies for the US market no longer make a utility vehicle with just the bare basics for field reliability and repairability. Jeep no longer makes such a vehicle, as their JK has quite a few electronic devices now. Give me a CJ with full doors, hard top, AC, shoulder seat belts, 4 doors, and a 125-inch wheelbase for towing capacity. Oh, throw in a manual transmission as well.

I feel that we are running in the wrong direction by becoming an increasingly technological and separating ourselves from our roots as inhabitants of a natural world.

I was half expecting to see a light cycle zoom pass the Toyota :giggle:

Too much far fetched. I don't think that will happen. That looks a bit extreme. :-P

Thank god I just found toilet! Whew!

Anyway, yeah I agreed with you. Few days ago, I was talking with few of my cool friends and we all talking about cars back in 70's and 80's. Where they are near end of zero electronic technologies. It was awesome and easy to fix and alot of cool things that we no longer see. For example I used to ride in Station wagon, where passengers sit in back of seat seeing the upcoming traffic than looking forward the traffic flow. It now banned due to safety reason, sigh. We even talk about some of fancy features that does not use electronic BS. Also, cool speed meter which is long rectangle, about 10 inches long and 2 inches height instead of circle or digital.

Trucks and SUV were darn simple back then. You could climb in engine compartment and work in it. Now the engine compartment is too crowd y to work around. Usually there is no special tools needed back then. Now, well you know.

I hope they make this Toyota in turbo version for anyone who cannot live without turbos.

Yea same eith 80s Nissan truck had lot of space in the engine compartment as well. It looked simple as well.

Future cars should be becoming simplier and roomier under the hood. Because it's basically all electronics combines into one black box and thin flexible wires connects anywhere except for battery, motor, and any heavy duty components.

One things I'm concerned about the OLED or EL display around the car that you can choose color, picture ect on the car. If you wrecked it or ding it. It'll be like a scar on the car. Also It won't last long, once car get old, some display screen around the car would malfunction and forcing you either have it remove and overlay it with new flexible OLED or EL dislplay or leave it as is and spray paint over it (paint it grey  ). That car can easily devalues quickly than previous used car with gasoline engine. Bottom line is that Electronics don't last long in 5 to 10 years. Also it may not be functioning well under freezing temperature. Is it worth it? Or buy a model that do not have display panels around it. I don't mind having Holographic image inside car.

DeafDrummer,

I know you would prefer gasoline/ diesel powered vehicle. But what if there are fuel shortage..... They will STILL produce SUV or Trucks for pulling load. Don't worry, Automotive Manufacturer are well aware of customer's need. It's not gonna die anyway. How can they stop producing it if people need it to pull 5th wheel, TT or trailer for business or pleasure!!?? I guarantee there will be powerful electric motor equavalent to diesel engine runs on Li ION batteries and regenerator. Its tranny would be a planetary gear similar to top of the line cordless drill or screwdriver. It give tons of torque per electric motor HP. Technology advancement would change all that. They will DO build simple electric truck or SUV that don't have all those fancy stuff and easy for any farmers or hauler to fix on their own.

Last thing out of my concerns... Big Brother vying to control your vehicle to regulate speed on you when you when you want to speed or stop and park your car if you had violation or locks you out of the car if you owe creditor $$'s preventing you from driving until you pay them. I'm sure there will be a hack somewhere in blackbox or replace blackbox with aftermarket blackbox with disabling control removed.

If you understand how cordless drill mechanics works, It's exactly same contempt for electric vehicles. Planetary gear are the KEY providing very strong torque. In fact that 2hp electric motor is much stronger than 2 hp gasoline engine due to constant torque. Electric motor will do grunt work to keep it going while gasoline engine will just die on top load curve.

I don't like electric Nissian LEAF car method of using wormgear. Though it's strong to get car going but if car fuse blown or battery died, you get sucked because you can't move car out of the way, only way to have group of strong men to lift and move car to side of road and drop it. Would that worth it??

Any electric cars with Planetary gears will allow you to push car out of the way. It's very much like turning forward or backward on chuck of dead cordless drill with your bare hand.

Hmmm, no netural gear to move it out of the way? Very cool, a drill powered bicycle. Strong enough to move a 150 lb human plus bike, wow.

Yup, It's very much like back in 50's, people think year 2k would be like space cities and rocket cars and everything futuristic but when 2k arrives and beyond that, we're still have gasoline powered car and same ol' crappy old buildings ect but have internet and touch phones ect.. Everything prediction about 2k that people says in 50's are our figment of memory.. We may wonder what'll be like in 2050?

Yup, that's correct. We don't know what will really happen in few decades from now. I doubt we will have flying cars anytime soon. It has been tried but never happened. Maybe one person every 1 million has a flying car.

just too weird....and all that beeing LAZY,,, white clothes... AND SLIM beautiful bodies is NO WAY gonna happen, when you walk like Maximum of 50M each day... and the prozac like smiles is just horrific....

think whats the underclass will be like , and thats including you and me, except if you have 20 MIllion in the bank NOW and managed NOT to loose it within 20 years from now....

hmmm, scary...and frankly i think the video sux...cars not not character, instant persoalisation IS NOT personalisation it is just a crass 'neo-consumerism"
