I found mice poison in the common hallway in my building two times! There was a small black tray of poison right next to my door a couple of month ago and I wrapped it up in couple paper bags and put it a trash bag. Then I found found another tray in the hallway last week and I got rid of it before Marty found it. I put both trash bags into the trash tote which it too tall for animal to get into. When I took Marty outside tonight I found another poison tray right on the ground where any animal could find it! It was partly covered with leaves and I glad I saw it before Marty did! I think someone took the poison tray and just throw on the ground! I can't believe someone would throw poison out like
that as any animal could find it ! I am thinking of calling my condo tomorrow
to let them know about this. The house I found the poison in front has a toddler living there and he is always playing in front of his house and picking up things he find on the ground! I asked everyone in my building if they had mice in their units and no one does. My condo assoc. is obsessed with using mice poison!

Simple:
NEVER leave your dog outside unattended and you must teach and reinforce the command: LEAVE IT. If it's taught properly to your dog, anytime you say it, he will stop in his tracks and look at you. If it's in his mouth you can use DROP IT or GIVE.

Your condo association is trying to keep the mouse situation under control BEFORE it gets out of hand.

Seems like you always have issues with your condo association. Yes, you do have the right to live there and pay rent, but you also have the right to live elsewhere.

Well, there has been cases where people deliberately put rat poison in an area to get rid of a house pet.

Which is why you don't leave your house pet outside unattended or unsupervised. Because his dog is his service animal, there's no reason why the dog should be left unattended at all.

Yes.

Personally I would worry about the little kids living in the building.
There are better ways of putting out poison where small children and pets cannot get to it but can still kill mice.

Pets should be watched at all times, the same as kids but I realize mistakes and accidents can happen in a split second.

I do not let my dog lose but he it very fast and find things on the ground before I do! I am glad I saw the poison before Marty did! And if read my whole post I said the poison tray was RIGHT in front of the house that has a small child living there and he play outside all the time. He is a toddler and you know how they'll pick up anything and put it in their mouth! Poison does not belong in the common hallway where small kids can get to it! I bet the manger does not put poison mice traps in his hallway! And no one in my building has mice.

I know and this did cross my mind , but everyone here like Marty. If someone
intentionality leave the poison out they had to be out of their damn mind to put it front of house that has a toddler living there. And I glad I find if a mouse ate some poison a cat or wild animal could dies from eating the mouse. And the could get into the food chain.

I do not pay rent!! I own my condo , my mortgage been paid off!

Some idiot put out rat poision and the rat came to die behind my dishwasher. Thanks, neighbor! Have the home owners association ban the rat poision and require people to put out traps.

Write a letter to the condo assocation and explain very matter of factly that you have concerns about poison being within easy access of pets and children and would prefer they place it in a safer place and issue a new bylaw forbidding placement of poison within easy reach of kids and pets. I'm a bit confused though, is it the condo assocation who placed the poison in the hallways or is it someone in the building who did that?

That was my biggest concern the kid! I watch Marty very closely when I take him out but like I said he is very fast and can smell things on the ground.
I think it wrong to leave poison in the common hallway , people do have famliy visiting with small kids to and it not wise to leave poison right out in the open.

A well-trained service dog doesn't get side tracked by stuff they see on the ground, they are focused on their handler at all times. Best way to see this? Leave kibble on the floor, put your dog in working mode, if they stop to investigate it, they aren't focused on you or their job. If they walk past it and ignore it, they are focused on you and their task.

However you can 'release' them to take it by saying a command such as 'OK' or whatever. This tells them they can relax a bit and enjoy a small treat.

I used this when feeding my dogs. I would have them sit and remain sitting at meal time. I sit the bowl of food in front of them. They can look at it, drool all over it all they want, but they could not eat until I released them to eat with 'OK'. It reaffirms that you are in charge and that they should always remain focused on you.

Again, no one is forcing you to live there. Have you considered that maybe someone reported seeing mice in the main hallways so they placed poison where they were reported seen?

As suggested, instead of complaining here, you could be more proactive and take it to your condo association. The results may generally be better.

That is a good idea ! I did try calling today but the office was closed.

It is the condo association that leaving the poison in all the building. I called the health department to find out if the condo had the rights to do this and I had not heard back. I was told they come and check this out. I will have to write myself a note to call the health department Monday. We have mice poison in the basement and I think that is OK , I am against it in the hallway!

Better yet, show up at the next condo association meeting. It's easier to ignore a letter than a person in a meeting. You can present the letter at the meeting.

Yes for a while! I kept cleaning out the garbage disposal thinking it was the source of the stench. I had to keep spraying stuff to kill the smell. Finally, it's back to normal.

We have a drought and the animals are desperate for water. That makes them more brazen about getting into houses.
