A new batch of 5,000 emails among scientists central to the assertion that humans are causing a global warming crisis were anonymously released to the public yesterday, igniting a new firestorm of controversy nearly two years to the day after similar emails ignited the Climategate scandal.

Three themes are emerging from the newly released emails: (1) prominent scientists central to the global warming debate are taking measures to conceal rather than disseminate underlying data and discussions; (2) these scientists view global warming as a political “cause” rather than a balanced scientific inquiry and (3) many of these scientists frankly admit to each other that much of the science is weak and dependent on deliberate manipulation of facts and data.

Regarding scientific transparency, a defining characteristic of science is the open sharing of scientific data, theories and procedures so that independent parties, and especially skeptics of a particular theory or hypothesis, can replicate and validate asserted experiments or observations. Emails between Climategate scientists, however, show a concerted effort to hide rather than disseminate underlying evidence and procedures.

Quite incorrect. I've been following this for a few days. Lots of new revelations. People continue to sift through the 5000+ emails.

It was never about having an open and honest science as these emails continue to show but all about politics and control in their efforts to modify data dishonestly. It was a bad game of playing Chicken Little that the sky is falling. Many people knew this was never the case and these emails support their arguments.

Latest date is late 2009 which corresponds to the time when those emails were downloaded prior to Thanksgiving 2009, you would expect a date no later than that. There are lots of new revelations not found in the first batch that was released to the public, especially about M. Mann and Penn State (if you know the story, fine, if not, go do some research). Also, found in 32 emails going back as far as 1998 show that the World Bank may be something of a puppet master. Including giving directions to professional journals from the World Bank. Something that wasn't revealed in the first batch. It's this whole sleazy quid pro quo stuff to push a climax hoax for political and economic gains.
