Helping Paws Service Dogs was founded by several folks who were obedience & show ring dog trainers that are now training helper dogs for folks with disabilities, including veterans with PTSD, hearing alert dogs for the hearing impaired in Tallahassee, FL. We take shelter dogs; working one on one, or in small group, to help a hearing impaired person train their own hearing alert dog. We originally started studying ASL because the law office I worked at need an ASL signer. While in college studying ASL as a second language, I realized the need for hearing dogs and alert dog trainers. As experienced dog trainers, we founded Helping Paws Service Dogs to train “pound puppies” for service work, including alert dogs for the deaf and hearing impaired. Contact us thought helpingpawsservicedogs@hotmail.com.

Do you supply these to people who need them without cost, or is this a sales pitch?

NO, sales pitch intended

No, we are non profit and do not charge, the only cost is the out of pocket cost, like the charge we get from the human society or animal control. This is NOT a sales pitch.

How does it work, helping a person train their own dog to be a hearing alert dog? I'd be interested in doing this with my (oversize) miniature poodle, Casey.

He has his Canine Good Citizen certificate, and we have done up to intermediate level agility training. No competition so far, however.

I would to have Marty trained to be a hearing dog too. I was working with the phone a little and Marty was starting to let me know when it ring.

contact info

our personal contact is legaleagle607@hotmail.com, pudgesstuff@hotmail.com, or helpingpawsservicedogs@hotmail.com , the first two email work best. The way is works is we help you to train YOUR dog to be qualified or cerified to be a service dog according the the ADA, or we help you get a dog from whereever, we perferrer the dogs from a no-kill shelter, then we help you qualify your new dog. We either work one on one or in small groups if that is benifical. We are from Tallahassee FL, so it work best if you live near Tallahassee, or we are will to try via email (not sure how that would work, but willing to try)

I'm interested in this but i'm in Massachusets. Is there a branch in MA?

How does it help specifically? Some things i still need help with, even though i have a CI, is waking up to an alarm shaker, leaving the water running, stove on, vacuum on, someone at door, etc. Could the dog help with that?
