D.C. Police Arresting Drivers With Expired License Plates

Oh-Uh, If you're living in Washington, DC. You better pay tag license plates or go to jail?

D.C. Police Arresting Drivers With Expired License Plates

GOOD. I was >.< that close to getting arrested back in 2006 for expired tags. I see people driving everyday with tags expired by months and even years. Yet most cops dont care, why do some people think that rules do not apply to them?
Just like people who speed, they think the rules do not apply to them because cops dont enforce the law of the road like they use to

I drove for almost a month with an expired sticker on my plate (after my birthday). I was shocked when I got pulled over!...had forgotten all about it...but just got a warning and the next day went down to the DMV and got a new one.....Now that my birthday will be here in 1 month, so right away, I'm getting it early after reading this thread! :giggle:...

(or I might be reading AD in the jail house).....

About 10 years ago, my wife was stopped by police for expired tag. She told him impossible. She showed him a registration and DL. The police guided her to the rear of her car, point at the tag on the plate. She realized the fresh tag was taken off, upsets. Police suggest her to go to the DMV to get another tag. She paid $10 buck for tag cuz she already paid renewal fee. I told her to mark with razor to prevent theft Aloha, dst

I've seen some people put out of state or Canada license plates on their vehicles while drving around the town. If the police recognizes same plate, he/she might nose the motorist. Finish.

Good idea, California should impose the law and collect money.

it actually costs money to arrest them. it's just simpler to issue fines. in NYC - NYPD will tow your cars and fines you too. double-whammy profits.

DC have the worst drivers in america. Jest wunna mention dat. :) My brutha lives their for a decade now.

THAT, is a better idea. The tow in TX for no insurance.

An even better idea might be to take the plates on the first stop and issue a warning tag that expires in 10 days. Then charge a fee when the new plates are purchased. And if the warning tag expires tow the car with a heavy fine attached.

fine by me!

all local and state governments should learn how to run it like business with "for-profit" attitude on violation/criminal matters. they need to stop using silly jail card. it's costly and ineffective. wouldn't be surprised if people rather get jailed than to pay penalties if it's cheaper that way.

I heard a rumor about who did not pay tag license plate in Los Angeles area. When parking meter officers/Police officers noticed their unpaid tag license plates and then, They impounds their cars away.

common practice in NYC. In fact... we have dozens of police cars equipped with cameras that automatically scan license plates :eek3:

Now that looks wrong on soooo many levels.

I know. It was very controversial. That's why its use are very limited and NYPD strategically places those specially-equipped cars in specific locations that requires a high level of security. sometimes in a certain area where they're actively looking for a person of interest or carjacker/kidnapper.

Seeing that pix - I can tell that police car is located near Wall Street area. I too have one parked near my work too since it's next to Holland Tunnel. I've seen it all the time at Times Square, Port Authority and sometimes at Brooklyn Bridge but at most areas... I don't see it.

New York - Two area police departments have installed license plate readers into patrol vehicles with grants from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.

The Monticello Village Police and Town of Chester Police received the funding for the devices.

The license plate reader uses infrared cameras that scan license plates on vehicles and then checks them against a database for stolen and suspended registrations.

Monticello Police while working with State Police during joint Impact patrols using a State Police license plate card reader was able to make several arrests for suspended registrations, drivers’ licenses and recovered stolen vehicles.

Since receiving the device last week, Chester police have made seven misdemeanor vehicle and traffic law arrests.
