i'm worried to death about my aunt.. she just found a lump in her breast and has to get it tested. the last time she had one was like 6 or 5 years ago and it was just a cyst. she got it removed.

is it possible for the cysts to come back??

She had it removed? Why? Breast cysts should evaporate on their own. Fibrocysts are different, but even a doctor can tell that without any further testing.

Typically when you find a breast lump, a mammogram and ultrasound are scheduled. The mammogram can confirm immediately whether it's a tumor (whether it's benign or malignant is another story, and needs to be tested via biopsy.) A tumor shows up as a grey-white matter, whereas a cyst won't even show up on a mammogram. Then, an ultrasound usually follows to confirm that it's a cyst - they show up as black because they're fluid-filled, usually.

I've had those, and have gone through this process myself. I'm extra-viligant because of a very strong family history of breast cancer.

I know you're worried about your aunt. I sympathize with you, totally. Wait until she has either a mammogram or ultrasound first so you all know where to go from here.

thanks alleycat, yes i think it was a fibrocyst because it wasn't cancerous. she hasn't had the test done yet so i'm waiting to find out.

yes its highly likely it come back, I have 5 cysts in breast at age 18 until 21 and it went away for 2 years and now its back (3 so far) and I'm almost 24... as long its black on US and is painful you're fine if its solid gray looking and isnt painful then its bad sign

Fibrocysts are never cancerous. They come about as a result of many things including hormonal changes.

Yep. I also have issues with a lot of ovarian cysts the past 2 years. So sick of tired of it. They hurt !! Especially when they rupture. So far all have shown up as black so all is okay for now with that.

I also have had to deal with these cysts. The information freaks out my hubby, who doesn't really understand, but we have told him there is not much to worry about. I come from a family that on either side, there is absolutely no cancer at all. What my mom has is caused by a blood disorder (cirrhosis of the liver due to Hepatitis C).

WHEW thank god, just found out from my grandpa that it's a fibrocyst. i'm so relieved

I think that any growing tumor can become cancerous. Be vigilant and have growths of any kind removed and biopsied. I had a fibroadenoma. I think that may be what your aunt had. Google that term for more info. Glad that it was benign. Women over 40 should be having annual mammograms. There are programs for mammograms if you don't have insurance that covers it.
