Southwest Says Passengers Called Behavior 'Excessive'

Actress Leisha Hailey, who starred in the Showtime series "The L Word," claims she and her girlfriend were kicked off a Southwest flight for kissing each other, People.com reported.

"I have been discriminated against by @SouthwestAir," Hailey tweeted Monday. "Flt. attendant said that it was a "family" airline and kissing was not ok."

The 40-year-old actress criticized the airline for staffing "homophobic employees" and added: "Since when is showing affection towards someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers as 'family.' I know plenty of wonderful same sex families I would like to introduce them to. Boycott @SouthwestAir if you are gay. They don't like us."

The airline posted a statement late Monday, saying: "We received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive."

"Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender," the statement continued. "The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight."

Movies get ratings - so do family friendly events. Whether they were straight or gay, excessive PDA's should not be around children. They need to get over themselves and get some common sense.

1) I don't think people should get kicked out for simply having excessive PDA.
2) I do think that the staff has the right to tell and warn them "Hey look you're making people uncomfortable with all that making out." THEN kick them out if they don't oblige.
3) I don't claim to know what really happened on the flight (did they really make out that much, or simply kissed a few times), but I will tell you one thing. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they simply kissed a few times and it made people uncomfortable. So people made complaints. In order to be PC, it's simply easier to say "Oh it was excessive, nothing to do with it being gay. We love gay people." The fact that this happened within what?..15 minutes, because they didn't even take off yet, so I have a feeling that they weren't making out that much.

That is why I hesitate to simply hold hands or even sneak kisses on the cheek with my girlfriend in public. It's sad really.

How old is she?

........she is old enough to avoid the immature behavior otherwise take "how to be polite/respect in public 101" class.

just curious - what year do you think you're in right now? 1700?

or you a devoted follower of George Washington's Rules of Civility?

What a shame....I agree with you totally Daredevil. I personally feel so sorry you are restricted to not being able to express your feelings for a person who is so important in your life..and what's with the family "deal" these kids today have seen so much sexually explicit stuff on TV, videos and yet all this over what I understand to be a few kisses. Family values apply to all familys and today there is a broad mix of family types and it is going to continue to grow. I will say I have met mature men that still feel like PDA's are innapropriate??? they are usually the same ones cheating on the wives.. I wish you every happiness Daredevil, and I am ashamed you must live with that constant fear..
hugs..Midnight

Yeah. lots of straight couples kissing each other too much too. No difference.

when my kids saw the same sex couples kissing each other. My kids said to me, " they both are girls." I said, " yes they must like each other. nothing wrong with it." my kids look confused but then said " ok". Once in a while my kids saw the same sex couples hugging, kissing or holding the hands. They seem to forget and act like its all same to them. COOL.

Laughing....I can not believe YOU (Authentic) had the nerve to say that to her. There's no need for a class on being appropriate just a need for some narrow minded people to understand the world is a different place...kids have seen women kiss other women before. It is more appropriate to have a class for all those screaming kicking the seat, stinking diapers and unbelievably annoying families I have had to put up with in my years of travel...and I love kids. Midnight

yes, let's keep displays of love and affection away from kids. Tsk tsk.

Too much PDA isn't good - even for straights. I mean, I don't mind PDA in some places but in a plane? That is disgusting and it has nothing to do with being a lesbian or being straight.

Someone should have told them to get a room....Showing affection for somebody is fine...but overly doing it hinges on obscene.....My feelings towards all this? Just to get attention....

If they were french kissing each other and licking each other's bodies while rubbing their hands all over their chest, then yea...going too far.

If they just kissed like a peck on the lips...yep, discrimination.

Excessive PDA, several complaints, they had to do something.

IMO........The airlines don't like competiton against their in-flight entertainment.
They like to charge extra for that.

fucking americans.
