So, earlier Sallylou mentioned to me that getting a flashing fire alarm? is something I need to get first for the house...it got me to thinking, I've never seen a fire alarm in this house. So, I went in search of one. It turns out the only one I found didn't even have one. I looked all over the house, and can't seem to find any others...So, we don't have a fire alarm...if we do; I certainly can't find it other than the missing one I found. There's an image of the missing one I found.

That is a missing firealarm. Does your sister own the house or rent it?

Then the landlord is in violation. :) He needs to have a fire alarm installed.

I'm going to tell my sister. I know the landlord is suppose to come this week to fix the kitchen sink, so hopefully he brings a fire alarm with him, when we tell him there isn't one.

Definitely in violation of the law, no doubt on that part. If the landlord doesn't install one anytime soon, you will have no choice but to report him. Otherwise, you could end up being held responsible for not doing anything about it.

Well, if he doesn't bring one.Which I'm hoping he does, then I will just purchase one personally myself. As a matter of fact, I should do that now just in case he doesn't anyway.

Call the fire department and they will tell your landlord he need to have one . I thought you have the fire department inspect a house when you buy it to made sure there are fire alarms in it. The landlord should had this done before he started renting. And made sure the landlord has flashing fire alarms installed and one in your bedroom and bathroom!

If he doesn't install one after being asked to do so. You are better off reporting him to the proper authorities. Do not buy one and install it yourself.

If there is any gas appliance in building like gas stove, dryer, furnace etc then I would recommend get Carbon Monoxide alarm. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer and can kill anyone before they actually realizes.
I have both Carbon and smoke alarm in my house and it is 100% Deaf friendly.

There's an electric stove...the furnace is outside in the garage, and as of the dryer I'm not to entirely sure...I'm pretty certain it's an electric, but I'm not to sure. I'd have to ask my Brother-In-Law he works for his families appliance company. I'm not sure if this one detects Carbon Monoxide, I was just happy we finally got one.

can you give me a link?

There isnt one, that is because I designed and installed.
Ain't cheap, friend of mine dropped his jaw when saw my system.

Whenever the Carbon monoxide alarm detects, all of my CM alarm goes off plus it will trigger device we call it relay which triggers other relay for doorbell. This will cause constantly flashing whole house.
My smoke alarm is Gentex, it is hard wired and I got 6 of em, all bedrooms has it and yes it will trigger when one goes off other 5 will go off.

This requires Electrician that knows how to do this. Not many Electrican knows how, that is because they are too focus on "Hearing" and demand only sounds not visual.

Of course there is Deaf designed Carbon Monoxide alarm that got transmitters in it. I hate transmitters, like I said in the past, I am old schooled guy, http://www.harriscomm.com/equipment/smoke-detectors/smoke-detectors/carbon-monoxide.html

wow. before I moved into my apartment, the previous landlord had maintenance install the flashing fire alarm/smoke detector for me. The light flashes, and it's very bright (there's one in each bedroom, and one in the hallway), and it also lets off this loud high-pitched beep. really annoying! I have to test all 3 of them from time to time to make sure they all are working.
