Car insurance is required, why not health insurance?

So, what do you suggest happen when one of these uninsured people gets cancer and racks up a medical bill for a couple million dollars inside a year? How are they going to cover those expenses?

I'm glad my dad has insurance. He was recently dx'd with a t3 cancer of the roof of the mouth. Thank goodness it didn't spread to his neck or lungs. I would estimate the cost to be around 200,000 dollars even with insurance but correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the uninsured, something has to be done as they can't bear this burden of those medical expenses.

Get a clue!! It is unconstitutional on the U.S. government level. The constitution allows for local and state laws made by the people. So yes, your state can force you to have auto insurance, so spoke WE THE PEOPLE.

Then your state can also force you to have health coverage. Difference being, a Federal plan helps with options to make it affordable. The state just says, "Buy it or suffer the penalites!"

People not having insurance because it is unnaffordable, because their employer doesn't offer it, because they make too much for a government sponsored insurance, or because they are young and believe they are invincible is what has gotten us into the medical crisis we are experiencing today.

That's how the world goes. More rules, more bs. If the government want everyone to have health insurance, then tax them and reduce spending on war and focus more on health care, security on the country itself.

It would be nice if that would work...but it won't. We have to make it affordable for all.

By your logic, if someone chooses to feed their kids instead of have health insurance, and gets in an accident and ends up in the hospital for a year, we should just let him die because he made the choice to not buy insurance so he could buy food. When are we going to stop punishing people for being victims of the circumstances this society has created?

Yeah, that's the tough issue but that would be nice.

I guess people should have taken a better look at Obama's original proposals instead of getting all emotional and paranoid. Had they looked at it logically and intelligently, instead of listening to people like Sarah Palin rant about "death squads" and "Killing grandma and handicapped kids" we would have an effective plan in place as we speak.

Yep we are a paranoid bunch of animals over some crap that were necessary.

It's floor of the mouth not roof.

the 700K probably comes from profits......six months ago, I was hospitalized for a mere 4 days and I belong to Kaiser (41 yrs now). The bill was 200k for those 4 days. I doubt your taxes came in to help fill the gap.

The hospital bilked your insurance carrier.

This friend is a Canadian?

Well, it's kind of common knowledge that people with diabetes often have to rely on their insurance carriers and still have to pay the difference.

That's something I'll like to see fixed. I also believe that dental work should be covered by the OHIP because dental health is well, important. Same with eyeglasses, but I do believe people should pay the difference when it come to adding extra features to their eyeglasses.

Sure, to make up for all the times the insurance carrier had undercut them and left them holding the bag. Tit for tat.

The hospital bilked your insurance carrier.

If I recall correctly, Kiaser has their own hospitals and etc. When I was in California and had insurance there, the Hopsital and insurance was same company so how they can bilk one other if they are same?

I could be wrong.

Born and raised Albertan. :)

To be frank, if it wasn't for Klein privatizing mental institutes, I would had grown up in one of them. It took people 6 years to figure out I wasn't autistic.

LOL... why did you like this one jillio?

It's so anti-socialist; the reason for such move was almost social Darwinianist in a capitalist fashion.
