Hi, I'm new to the forum. I thought I'd post. I've been thinking about something lately. I'm hearing, and I've felt like I want to be Deaf.
That sounds SO strange, I know. However, before I learned about ASL or Deaf culture, I always felt sort of out of place. After finding ASL....I feel so different. I found something that makes sense. All my teachers have said, in different ways, for a lot of Deaf people who grew up talking, when they learn ASL it's like a light comes on and they understand. That's pretty much how I feel. I love the culture, the traditions, the candidness. The personality and tendencies all grow up are very similar to that of Deaf Culture.
I'm in school to become and interpreter. I have two semesters left and I will have a degree in interpreting and will start interpreting in Texas.
My problem is I have no idea where to find Deaf people my age to hang out with.:-( Anyway, I just thought I'd share that. I felt like it was a weird thought. I'm curious as to what ya'll think?
Some deaf people wish they were hearing. what if a hearing person wishes they were Deaf? Strange, I know.
