Hmmm, what doesn't make sense to me is why Doris Schmitt left anything to her two nieces......
So they couldn't contest the will.
Why would "contesting the will" even cross Doris' mind if there was no world left.....?

Because they were going to still be on earth for another 5 months??Hmmm, what doesn't make sense to me is why Doris Schmitt left anything to her two nieces......

Probably so.
If it were her daughter, I could understand the anger. But a niece? Maybe if she'd been closer to her aunt and helped the aunt out in her old age, she'd rightfully expect something. Sounds like the aunt had a tough life. But just by virtue of being related, well, too bad. Auntie had the right to leave her money where she wanted, even if it seems crazy.
Which it does, don't get me wrong. Still, her money, her choice. There's no law against disinheriting nieces and nephews.

Could be. You never know what was going through someone's mind when they made their will. If aunt disapproved of nieces' lifestyle for any reason, that could do it.
Did you happen to read in the news of the fortune left by this woman?
"Huguette Clark: New York's billionaire recluse dies, aged 104 | World news | The Guardian"
Died at age 104 with a fortune in the billions. Bet THOSE nieces and nephews are going to contest the will, if it turns out that the old woman was possibly manipulated into leaving it to the lawyers.
Saw that last week. This one will no doubt be tied up in court for years.
Okay. I am slow today...

Several years ago, two women who happened to be Jehovah's Witness members, helped to clean a house that belonged to an elderly man and somehow they duped him into changing his will in order to give everything included $900,000 to the JW.
His two daughters and one son fought hard against them in the court; as a result, the court ruled in favor of his children.
