Event Planned For Monday In Iowa

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced his candidacy for president a day early on Sunday in a video posted on his website.

The Republican said he would begin his campaign Monday in Iowa.

"I'm Tim Pawlenty, and I'm running for president of the United States," he said in the video on Pawlenty 2012.

That he is running is not a big surprise to many campaign-watchers. The New York Times reported that Pawlenty has already assembled a campaign staff and traveled to states with early contests.

He did a good job for Minnesota. Not sure he is ready for the big show, but he has been working towards this for a long time.

I will never forget his campaign promise of no new taxes. When the state needed revenue, he created a $1.00 a pack "user's fee" for cigarette smokers. :hmm:

A contender, but not one I am too concerned about.

Are you serious? He's one of the very few who actually stand a chance of winning. Don't let complacency keep you at home, the Republicans can still certainly win this election, especially if they nominate a real candidate (like Pawlenty or Romney)

He is a real candidate....no doubt. He will need help. If obama screws up any the door is wide open. There are already somempeoplenin the heartland that are not too happy henis in Europe right now. This summit in Hawaii won't please many either.

Romney? no chance at all. not even a sliver of hope.

Well, I did read where she said "she had the fire in her belly to run"....dunno if anybody has found a fire hose yet....

I think it's really difficult to make any sort of prediction until we see who wins the Republican nomination, but the longer it takes for them to decide upon a candidate, the longer that person has to convince everyone that they're marginally better than voting for [random faceless Republican], since relying upon party identification and resentment towards the sitting President isn't exactly a winning strategy (as the Democrats learned in 2004).

But assuming they choose someone who has at least some sort of appeal to the moderate swing voters, I think Obama's made more than enough missteps since being originally elected to have a serious challenge, even without needing to make more.

Really now? He's currently considered (though not very strongly) to be the Republican front-runner. We'll see how far the anti-DC sentiment shapes up once people start thinking in the terms of "I want someone who will beat Obama, not just someone who will kick up silt in all of my pet causes and come in a not-extremely-close second (like Palin or Bachmann would most likely do).

Yes! But only because I'm a bad person who not-so-secretly enjoys a good bit of schadenfreude, lol.

Ah, Palin. It's like National Lampoon hand-crafted their own ultimate candidate, and then from up on high, Zeus turned you into a real bo-, er, girl. And then you convinced people to take you seriously! You might be a true idiot savant for that last part alone.

Who said I was complacent? And I never stay at home when the time comes to vote.:cool2: And I've got several Presidential elections on you.

Yeah, please let her run. I could afford a little complacency in that situation.:laugh2:
