I see thing differently which is why I'm asking. You say it's "oppression" and I'm asking why that is the case. Why are you so defensive?

Not defensive..just think that you are being silly.

because I think you have enough experience with culturally Deaf people and Deaf culture from what you have shared in your blogs and your posts on AD to play ignorant about how misleading the title is.

I'm talking about your claim that the article would mislead the public about deaf people. Maybe misinform people on what CI can do and not do (and that is doesn't cure hearing loss) but how does it mislead -->about deaf people<--? Because I'm seeing from the perspective as seeing her as a late deafened adult. And you said also that it creates "more oppression against those deaf who dont have CIs." How so?

You have a different perspective than I do and I asked for clarification, yet you get defensive.

If "formerly deaf" is not misleading about deaf people, then who is it misleading about? Hearing people? Blind people? People with MS?:roll:

He knows. But one cannot hope to be accepted by a group of hearing audists unless one acts like a hearing audist. It is called saying what you believe will gain you favor with the group you are trying to get to accept you. Sad really.
 
for me, I guess I wonder...it seems like in the article, they make a big thing about her alleged "former deafness", which seems like - well, alleged hearing like hearing people is now so wonderful...

I see the audism very clear in that article...

I see the woman as to finally able to enjoy sound and hear her own piano playing music once again. That was the main point of that article about her reconnecting to the world of sound much to her delight.

I can see the headlines now...I conduct an orchestra after donning hearing aids and after the paper calls me "formerly deaf." I sweat through my contortions with the baton stick and the hearing aids stop working. Whoaa, somebody stop the presses! I am DEAF!
That is the main point of this thread. Get over it.
