I am a student taking ASL-101. I am looking for a couple of people to share their answers to my questions.

At what age did you comprehend that you were deaf and that most other people were not? Do you remember how you felt? What was going through your mind?

Thanks,
Pete

Can't you go to a deaf social night of some sort in your area and directly ask them in person? So that you can practice your ASL at the same time and I'm sure that was your teacher's goal.

I was happy that I was different from my boring hearing peers because I like to stand out. :D

I became bilaterally deaf on December 20, 2006. I knew from the silence-hearing aid was working. At that point I was 70. What when through my mind-how fast can I start the process for getting a Cochlear Implant. Fortunately was successful-approved June 20, 2007 Sunnybrook/Toronto

Implanted AB Harmony activated Aug/07

For large part is a disability and not a "feature", I cannot appreciate music, nor hear subtle difference and when I was younger I was so conscience of it...having said that, by freeing my brain from hearing, I became an astute learner, and now am in the top in the nation in mathematics, :) so it all works out,

I was born deaf...so yeah
