After reading 3Littemen thread , I wonder if anyone else know of this happening to a family member or friend? It is scary to read about doctors making a
wrong diagnosis on a baby!

I knew a young woman that was 18 years and she when to a doctor in Cal. as one of her breast was hurting. The doctor said she had breast cancer and her breast has to be removed right away! The woman was horrific about the news and thanks god she when back to Boston to see another DR. It turn out she was learning how to play pool and she kept hitting her breast with the stick! The quack in Calf. was 'knife happy' and wanted to cut a young woman breast off for no reason!
It really pays to get a second opinion!

YIKES! He is a quack. I don't believe breast cancer even causes pain (I could be wrong). Good thing she got a second opinion.

My Mother was misdiagnosed with breast cancer once.

I was at my doctor's office once and I told him I haven't had a mammogram
in awhile and the DR. checked my file and said "you had one 2 months ago!"
I said, "I did not!" My DR. repeated that is said "you had one 2 months ago!"
Once again "I said I would remember having my breasts flatting like a pancake!"
My Dr. finally looks at my file again and said "this is not your mammogram!" Some fool put another patent's mammogram results in my files! I thought want if I did had a mammogram and mine came out clean and the other woman had cancer , my fool ass DR. would had wanted to removed a breast of mine for no reason! My DR. thought I was stupid because I had a hard pronounce the meds I was taking for TMJ! I no longer use this DR!!

I was pretty young when that happened. I just remember my Mom's mammogram "suggested" she had cancer. So, they scheduled her for the biopsy. Her Dr was SURE she had cancer; even saying "Prepare yourself ...." Turns out, that the hard lump that was seen on the mammo, and felt by the Dr, was nothing more than calcium deposits that were removed when they biopsied the tissue. She was fine.

She sought out another Dr after that.

I feel I need to say this about Dr's and other medical professionals. Most are good and very professional. There ARE some who aren't, though. I'm far from a pollyanna who puts complete trust in Dr's, but, I don't like the idea of demonizing the medical profession, either.

The key is do your research. Check records of these Dr's to see if they have any complaints against them. Know your body and KNOW what is in your medical records. In short, be informed! The more informed the person is the better off they are. Medical profressionals are human just like the rest of us. They make mistakes. There will always be Dr's who should not be practicing, but for the most part, there are good ones out there.

I agree you should ask to see what is in your medical record and do not say anything if you do not want it in your medical record. My ex husband told our Dr. that he wanted to bring a gun to a doctor's and demand to be seen and get treated! I thought I was going fall off my chair when I heard my ex say this! When we change DR. my ex was shocked to read his medical record and find out the Dr. wrote down what he said about the gun!

Your ex also was damn lucky he didn't get carted off to a mental ward for being a danger to himself and others!

I do know that my daughter was diagnosed with 32 different disorders and such, including autism and mental retardation. Luckily, I demanded a 2nd and 3rd diagnosis from different doctors and she was only diagnosed with 2 developmental delays. This was all in for the determinations for my daughter to get Social Security. She was referred to these doctors by SS and I filed complaints when it was done. The original psychologist is no longer on the "rolls" for Social Security determinations.

even Dr. House is wrong

I know ! I had no idea he was going to say that, if I did I would had told him that will go in your medical record! It was a real insane thing to say!!

There is a huge difference from having 2 developmental delays than having 32 different disorders! I know there more good doctors than bad one but it sure is a nightmare when you get a bad DR! I am glad your daughter was finally diagnosed correctly!
