ho encounter some of the extremist views here and run away, assuming that incorporating ASL into a hearing family's life is impossible, that Deaf Culture is unwelcoming, and that children with HAs or CIs are not welcome in deaf schools and deaf culture.[/QUOTE I have not seen that at ALL! Granted I do think some parents might see us arguing about how dhh kids should aquire oral abilty, and interpret that as being anti oral.
I have to say that Deaf Schools need to become more hoh friendly. They need to develop programs, where kids can develop speech and sign, both as full languages? Did you know that before 1974, Hoh kids were served at Schools for the Deaf? HOH....they grew up with both speech and sign. Maybe we need to go back and figure out how they did that!
