Right there's many reason why we get upset and people report F-J. She need to tone down.

I fail to understand why she keeps coming here. Maybe she's an AGB plant.....

I must miss a lot. I try to avoid the threads that upset me.

Of course lately , that means I have finished several books instead of participating at AD.

Maybe I should do the same....

Or maybe it's very much the opposite, and perhaps she's trying to stem the tide from here to "the dark side," stopping the flow of new parents of deaf children who encounter some of the extremist views here and run away, assuming that incorporating ASL into a hearing family's life is impossible, that Deaf Culture is unwelcoming, and that children with HAs or CIs are not welcome in deaf schools and deaf culture. If the small handful of hearing parents of deaf children were to leave tomorrow, as most have, you might have a bit of an echo chamber for a few weeks, but then the wars would begin among those who remained against the next minority: adults with CIs. And then there's be those with HAs, who are relatively oral, and so on.

But if hearing parents of deaf children remain, representing a range of options, from oral to bilingual, including those who cue, who use ASL, SEE2, PSE, those who wear CIs, HAs, or are fully unaided/ASL, then newcomers will recognize themselves or options that might work most appropriately, and the dialogue will continue with all groups learning from one another. With experienced parents of deaf children forming a link to the experiences of grown deaf people. In theory.

Or they may just continue to battle it out until no man is left standing.

There's no reason for her to give us a hard time because of some people out there.

It seems that what could have been a wonderful instance of coming together on common ground -- the OP's article -- quickly became an opportunity for several people to jump all over CIs or push "I told you so's", rather than celebrating the use of both spoken language and ASL. And that turned the tide to defense of CI vs. attacks on CI and lots of charges of "audist." No one attacks ASL (nor should they), but there's never an opportunity to miss making a nasty or snide comment belittling the choice to get a CI. Crap, I went long again :) My thumbs!

what we are pointing out is that CI is not a cure.

After today I am curious are you a psychologist, Grendel? It's perfectly respectable if you are. My stepmother is, although long retired.

ho encounter some of the extremist views here and run away, assuming that incorporating ASL into a hearing family's life is impossible, that Deaf Culture is unwelcoming, and that children with HAs or CIs are not welcome in deaf schools and deaf culture.[/QUOTE I have not seen that at ALL! Granted I do think some parents might see us arguing about how dhh kids should aquire oral abilty, and interpret that as being anti oral.
I have to say that Deaf Schools need to become more hoh friendly. They need to develop programs, where kids can develop speech and sign, both as full languages? Did you know that before 1974, Hoh kids were served at Schools for the Deaf? HOH....they grew up with both speech and sign. Maybe we need to go back and figure out how they did that!

Did you know that before 1974 I was fully mainstreamed, oral student, although closer to deaf than hoh?
