A rant, if I may

it's the paper company's that are at fault.with the rising cost of paper that go into packaging there is less money for actual food. also our government is involved with this since if there is less food per box then we eat less. hence, less obese people, less medical care care is required, less medicare paid out, less government expenses and finally a lower budget.

ah, my coffee is kicking in

Point taken; so any idea as to why they do this?
I think it is deception, hoping we don't notice for awhile. After we buy the new sizes for a few months, we have been trained to accept it. Kind of like gasoline; they keep raising the prices, then lowering them. After awhile, we are trained to accept that gasoline prices can vary drastically from day to day, so they can raise the price 2 weeks from a holiday, then lower it right before the holiday, people might think they have a heart.

Honestly, I haven't noticed....but thks. for the heads up, I'll be more aware of it when I buy groceries this week....maybe even email/phone/write some companies about what they are doing!...But I am aware of the gas prices going up and down, nothing we consumers can do about it, if there was, I'd be 1st in line to make a complaint....right now, it's just cussing/muttering under my breath.

LOL! Do you really think a person it going to eat less if the box is smaller! They will just buy more food to eat! I think it is funny some companies are selling boxes with packages of cookies that have only 100 calories per package! I bet some people will eat half the box and think they're cutting down on cookies!

It's another marketing tool..

recipe calls for 16 oz of something and can is only 12. You need to get more.

This was on the news when the price of creals was getting way out of control!

That's because cereal is almost all packaging now. The boxes look like a magazine: tall and thin. It costs money to make those boxes. I keep thinking that they are not really saving much money here. They are just trying to get people used to paying a certain price, but getting less product for the money. Soon they will need to put cereal in the box in a single layer.

ironically, we have to spend more stuffs that are not enough but buy more with the high prices. Sheesh.

I have notice when opening a box of cereal lately the cardboard is thinner and the box will rip if you open it too hard! I also hate that a lot jars are made out plastic instead of glass now, as the plastic can break down and get in the food! I miss the 50's when food was real and we did not have all this fake food. Now you just add water to a package and made a instant meal!

I just meet a guy at the a DR. office and he was telling me he just got chickens so he will not have buy any more eggs ! I such wish I could do ! But I do not think the trustees would like me keeping chicken on my deck! I bet there will more people trying to raise their own food when the prices at the stores get really out of control!

Well, don't their costs go up too? Don't you want them to stay around?

Yeah, but they should stick to one way or the other for covering their rising production costs. Either up the price or make the portion smaller...not both!:P

Yeah, it really stink that the packages are getting smaller and the prices is getting higher! I do not think the companies will go out of business if they kept the packages the same size!

I do miss growing my own vegetable garden behind the large garage in Ohio years ago. Right now, I live in an apartment. :(

If I have my own house, I will start my own garden again to grow more vegetables!

You can grown herbs in pots , I know what you mean about not being able to have a garden. I had a nice one when I lived in California and you could grow food all year ! I live New England now and have to grow things on my deck and that is not the same as having a garden!
