I like how he used metal bearings as guide.

I do too.

It made me a little bit nervouse watching him make those cuts. I was taught to push the wood through the blade with another peice of wood, not your hand.

I have a fine lady over here right now, will be spending the night away from the computer - Splendid idea, yes?

Will get back to you on this tomorrow

same. I used to do woodworking back in high school.

A few years ago - I used to work at a local small manufacturing business as an IT consultant - Intech Power Core

For your bearings, roller, and perhaps wheels for band saw... I'd go with Intech. I've seen samples of failed metal gears/rollers compared to Intech's (used in major corporations' factories, helicopters, and airplanes). They're definitely for real. Metal parts has a high failure rate because of lubrication issue, heating issue, malleability issue, vibration issue, etc... The owner told me that his part is quieter and more durable.

You should have a talk with them and ask for sample. Their product are custom-made for each client.

Almost same one but full of metal at Tyson for cut cow's leg in half. So they had to replaced a saw blade once or twin a day. They use their two hooks to push a cow's part in the handsaw. No hands allow. Sometime saw blade got dull so quick if hook hit it too much.

doesn't a farm tractor have a PTO attachment you can use as a power source? as long as the blade guides hold the blade in position the wheels that hold the blade don't matter. i have had blades break on me and nothing really happens, just separates and then i weld it back together

I am going to use a 6 HP lawn tractor engine for the power source.

I am also seriously brainstorming on how to raise and lower the blade easily as well as sliding rails.

I am thinking about using angle iron. The summit of the triangle on the angle iron will be pointed skyward. The rail will be another peice of angle iron. I am going to need to learn how to weld ((sigh)) because I want to use roller blade wheels to slide the upper angle iron on the lower angle iron. Two roller blade wheels on each side of the angle so the summit of the lower angle will be between the two wheels.

It should slide easily with no friction at all. The only thing I am thinking is the weight of the carriage may spread the lower angle iron, so I may have to cut triangular peice of hardwood to fill that gap.

Consider having someone weld that for you who has some experience and can do it right. It would be safer than a booger weld that fails at the wrong time.

I am going to start off using a chainsaw mill first as I have the equipment to do that, and it seems to be a little bit more portable than a bandsaw mill. I have a 36" heavy duty Husqvarna chainsaw but I need a welder to make the frame for me. They also sell the chainsaw mill frames on e-bay so i may just do that.

I am wanting to build a log cabin garage workspace and I can easily mill the 4x8 beams with a chainsaw mill. Yellow pine grows like a weed tree where I am from - so does red and white oak.
