I have been thinking about start my own eBay store. I've been wondering how much to invest to get it going. I want to do on electronic accessories and small electronics.

Any advice would be appreciated.

:wave:Sequoias, sorry I have no useful advice for you but I wanted to wish you good luck:)
I know my husband often wants certain very "techie"/intricate parts that aren't available in places like Radio Shack, Best Buy <We don't have a Fry's here>.

Thanks!

I know what your husband meant. Frys is a great store! I miss it so much. :(

You need to look on ebay and search for products that you intend sell. Check how much they are and whether or not you can compete.

Startup investment costs should not be too high if you start off small, working from home until you're able to expand.

I think your biggest challenge will be competition, especially for small electronics. People who reside in China operate in this market and they're very competitive. For example, I bought a digital video camera for $2 and had it shipped from China to the UK for less than $7. It would be very difficult for most Western countries to compete with that. So yeah, you need to do market research for the products which you intend to sell.

Check for:

- Wholesale prices
- Competition
- Demographics
- Postage & distribution costs
- Administration workload & costs

Im starting from small and work the way up, pretty much. Yes, the competition is pretty hot on some of the items. I bought a USB sync cable for my phone for only 7 cents...yes you heard that right.

NO idea but I wanted do the same thing too! But I have 11 months old to chase after.....and babysit 4x a week sometimes more than that.

*sigh* I would love to earn some extra cash!

BTW Wish you best of luck! :)

Well, you could do that. I personally against eBay because it charges more. But, I can't say more because eBay captured one very important in the business which is PayPal. I may think that it is good, but it does not have to be that way. I don't know how many good "bank" services out there. I must warn that you, please, should never use a Western Union and escrow services - if you do then you will be victimized.

You could start your business with a hosting service instead of eBay which give you more opportunity. Most hosting websites offer you to create a website with some simple friendly basic stuff and an optional bank service (like Google, etc) to get started.

What about Esty or something like that? Yea Ebay do have a fees...hate it!

yeah, when we were in CA, some years back, my cousins took hubby to Fry's and he was ecstatic.
Extra cash is always cool:thumb:

Electronic accessories and electronics? I hope you realize how cut-throat the competition is. The prices will have to be rock-bottom and the fees will practically ensure very little profit unless you sell in bulk.

All I can share is this, you will need money to make/sell money.

Customer is always right and be prepared to haggle/barter and settle for whatever the customer wants after all, it is their reviews that they leave behind for your ratings that counts the most.

Personality is most important. It is important to keep a level-headed mind when dealing with the most persnickety customer, after all, it is their dollar.

Argh I kept getting Email about reply the post. How can I remove that?! I am struggling to figure it out! UGH!

Hmmm, that happened to me a few days ago from another thread. When the thread ran its course, the emails stopped. I guess you just wait, lol.

ebay is now overwhelm. Too many common items. That mean, you have to find out if they sell few or hard to find. Make it excellent to sell.

This glitch started last week and I have no idea why. You'll have to do two things.

First
1. Go to your "USER CP"
2. click on "EDIT OPTIONS"
3. "Default Thread Subscription Mode" - select "DO NOT SUBSCRIBE"
4. click on "SAVE CHANGES"

Lastly
1. go to "LIST SUBSCRIPTIONS"
2. select these threads and then click on "DELETE SUBSCRIPTION" on drop-down menu and then click on "GO"

Good idea. You need buy a cheap laser printer and you will use it a lot for label for shipping. Laser tone is cheaper than inkjet ink per paper.

I have little business for sell item thru amazon.com

Create another email for business to avoid spam on your personal mail.

I am aware that eBay is in a saturated market with lots of cheapies...too much competition. I also think I might be a little too late to start that.

Whatever you will start your own business or not but want to say good luck! ;)

Happy Birthday! :D

Hey. Don't be afraid of flopping a few times. That is normal. The trick is to sell what people want, and it is never too late for that.
