Hello, I am single, 32, hearing and I currently reside in Austin, TX.

During a a recent conversation with a co-worker, I was asked if I would be willing to date a deaf man. My response...YES...why not? The only issue I could think of is...well, I am kind of shy when it comes to approaching men, but if I thought a deaf man was interested in me...I would not let the fact that he is deaf and I am hearing deter me from being in a relationship with him. I guess, I feel like life is too short to let love pass you by...period.

So...back to my question would a deaf man consider dating a hearing woman?

by me truly loving the Creator, loving you as his creation is natural

My deaf brother's girlfriend is hearing.

If she is good looking, has money, is willing to cook, clean, and iron, sure!!!

;)

Seriously, my buddy is deaf, and has been married to a hearing woman for 20 years now. The real key is clear, open, honest communication. Without that, it will not work.

He signed yes...

So I took a chance at a major shot down...I asked him...he was ...he then :D and signed yes, and wrote on a piece of paper that he didn't think a hearing woman would be interested in him (I am still scratching my head at that assumption)...anyway...we have a date this Saturday to watching the viewing of the ASL movie Black Sand at the Texas School of Deaf  with dinner after.

I am so stoked...:dance2:

It's possible he was mainstreamed and got oscracized when everyone else was dating in high school.....it does seem like a lot of people think that b/c we're dhh or disabled we MUST be asexual!

whoa nelly

Well i was married two times to hearing woman. The hards part they dont want to waste there time being with a deaf man because there isnt much talking to eachother as your dating. Plus tired of helping out with phone calls or with Doctors whatever you name it. My two marrages last 5 years each. They just left when got home from work. If you like to learn sign language its best to make relationship last maybe longer.

So...the movie was great, the date was awesome and we have another date next Saturday : )

Some deaf people may prefer the idea of dating a hearing person because hearing people can often act as a second pair of ears. But I guess it would depend on the person. However, as FrankJr55 implied, communication is key to any relationship. If you can't communicate with your partner in a way which suits you both, then you're heading for a rough ride.

I am definitely going to learn sign language. Following the movie the director had a Q&A session. I wrote my question down on a piece of paper and he signed to the director for me.

Sign language is awesome. People were able to communicate with each other from across the room as opposed to yelling across the room over other people conversations. It was a very unique experience for me but one I immensely enjoyed.

I am so looking foward to our next date :D.

Hi,

I am hearing and my husband is deaf. So yes, hearing woman do date deaf men (and eventually marry them in my case)
It is very convenient (in my experience) to learn how to sign.

Good luck and have a nice date!

Glad to know you are enjoying your new date.

The real test comes after the excitement wears off. How well you two communicate during unforeseen events, bleak times, etc, will tell you where your relationship is going to go.

Just remember one thing..not all deaf guys are as innocent as they look...:cool2:

:laugh2:
