The Deaf Community

I feel that's not the impression I see from the society. it's more like the society scorning the wealthy for living too frivolously when their wealth could have been better spent on education especially schools with terrible budget cuts

True...

Seriously? No wonder why nobody here takes your posts seriously anymore.

I continuously provide research that shows that the myths people believe are untrue. Instead of believing the research, people say "That doesn't count..." or "they rigged the research" or even "That was done by hearing people..."

So what is the point in showing the research when people refuse to open their minds at all?

That's because the mailman doesnt work hard enough to deserve to live in a mansion.

That goes for teachers too.

I beg to differ :)

Teachers and you do work harder than mailman and you know what's sad? All these trouble and hard work, stressful hours, and Master's Degree plus certification that teachers have to go thru.... the amount they get paid for it is nearly equivalent to mailmen's salary (and MTA subway worker) and it's not a hard job :mad2:

research is frequently wrong.

I just remembered...

my best friend's (she is a former oral deaf) deaf brother had both worlds growing up and he and his deaf wife recently chose to not to be involved with the Deaf community anymore. They both got CIs.

I asked my best friend why they dont want to be involved with the Deaf community anymore. She said it was because there were not enough Christians in the Deaf community and too many people who were interested in partying.

I guess they are now happy in the hearing world with their Church. :dunno:

The garbage truck men make more money than I do. I just found that out a few months ago from my neighbor whose cousin recently got a job as a garbage truck man.

I was like "If they fire me for being too Deaf for children with CIs" I can apply for a job hauling trash. I am not afraid of hard physical work. I dont have to worry about the phone issue in that field.

And you are happy for them?

Are you happy that they could find happiness, even though it was not in the Deaf world, but instead in the hearing community?

I never gave them much thought because I am not fond of them personally. Whatever makes them happy, doesnt have an impact on me. If they are happy, good for them. My friend didnt elaborate on whether they were happy or not.

It seems like you forgot that I support giving both to all deaf children so they can grow up and make the decisions on whichever world they want to be part of. I have stated that a million times. If they dont want to be a part of the Deaf community, it doesnt affect me personally.

I get upset when I see children with language delays and deficients due to not being exposed to both. That angers me.

Adults..they can do whatever they want as long as they dont put the Deaf community and ASL users down or carry audist attitudes.

yea those damn unions

NYC MTA subway conductor makes more than me too. Average salary is $100,000+

Meet The 8,074 New York Transit Workers Who Earn More Than $100,000
Another shocking report by SeeThroughNY reveals that 8,074 MTA employees earned $100,000 last year. Fifty MTA employees earned more than $200,000 last year. And salaries are rising.

This is at a time when the New York City and State are struggling with a gaping budget deficit and billions in debt. Meanwhile, the MTA is cutting costs by reducing service and may remove cars to save electricity.

Past reports by the non-profit group include a list of 899 state employees who earn more than Governor David Patterson.

So who are these lucky train drivers and engineers?

LIRR Conductor Larry Pinkham Jr. - $108,481
MTA Police Officer Kevin Smith - 122,211
Superintendent of Maintenance Vito Sicolo - $136,778
Chief Diversity Officer Michael Garner - $148,438
MTA Administrative Manager Lois Tendler - $153,840
Deputy Executive Director Of Administration Linda Kleinbaum - $191,958
Director of Budget Management Christopher Boylan - $198,326
Superintendent of Labor Relations John Hein - $198,451
LIRR Conductor Thomas Redmond - $239,148
Long Island Railroad President Helena Williams - $286,872

..... and that's the paltry amount compared to the amount spent on deafies...

That reminds me...why hasn't anyone responded to PFH's reverse audism that I mentioned earlier??

I am not sure what you mean by "reverse Audism" Even by definition deaf people can be and are in many cases Audists too.

So, do you admit that you forgot how many times I have stated that I support both worlds and both languages?

No, it is very clear that you support ASL as the first and primary language and written English taught through ASL as the second language. You also support speech therapy, outside of school.

and it yields a greater success than oralist approach.

Audism is a support of the idea that hearing is better than Deaf and speaking is superior to ASL. Reverse audism would be the idea that ASL and ASL users are superior to oral deaf people.

do you have a proof that says otherwise?

I have shown studies that show that AV students match hearing kids in all areas of development, including self esteem and that Deaf schools in both California, and now West Virgina have less than 15% (and 9% in WV) of their students can read on grade level.
