Actually this shouldn't have happened. It takes much longer than a day for an account to be inactive. 6 months actually is usually the norm. But if you have frequent deposits and automatic w/d's then this shouldn't happen either. Also if your account is in overdraft and you have overdraft protection it shouldn't be closed either unless it's over your overdraft limit. Furthermore, closing an account isn't automated. It's done by a person so whomever closed your account should have looked into the situation further and seen that your account was actually was within your overdraft limit...even if it wasn't It's not like you constantly keep your accounts in bad standing, I would think, and previous transactions in the account should have been reviewed before closing. And the only way the bank can send back a credit to your account or debit is with the account holders authorization UNLESS or it's garnishment from a company or gov't or due to other reasons that you would know about.
