My Next Computer Purchase...

I don't need your pity. I just know what I need and what i don't.

I'm not the kind who use a computer just to surf the net and play Farmville 18 hours a day. I have other priorities.
me either. I use VPN or SSH or online.. which replaces DVD drive.

According to your statement. *Agree with you* Its really unbelieveable that there's people out there who do farmville as if they're their 40 hours a week job.

I tried Farmsville and then I deleted it.

Eeh. With the amount of data I create, storage backup is pretty much a must. External hard drives, optical discs, etc. Keep in mind that my clients' needs vary.

What you mentioned, they dont' meet my standards. Like I said, my clients' needs vary. Instant access is also a priority. So if this means optical disc, USB storage, etc. So be it. The internet will not be my first choice. If I go to an area with nothing but dial-up internet, forget it. I'll rather rely on physical storage.

yea I understand. But for AquaBlue - he does not need it. I'm just pointing out that for normal use - you do not need DVD drive.

Back-up on External hard drives is better than DVD. HDD is cheap than DVD by price per GB.

I don't think Apple's time machine will work with optical disc so optical disc is pointless.

no. the DVD is for his clients.

Correct. I sometimes use it for backup too as well. External hard drives is an ideal way of backing up all your works, but I wouldn't limit to just that.

Hard drives can and do fail. So can DVDs, especially if there's an air leak in it. You have to keep your options open.

That's why there is RAID 1 or RAID 5 EHDD for.

I don't use Time Machine. It takes up too much space. In all these years of working on computers, I've never needed a system restore nor the time machine.

So? I recommended client to use EHDD over DVD. Some of customers have over 80 gb of data for business and DVD still useless again.

eh? what in the world are you talking about?

that's why I have 4+ hdd just for back-up only :eek3:

same because I don't have 1000 programs.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Epix (i907))

I use DVDs to store digital photos, USB flash drives for my files.

Sound like you worry too much over HDD fail and use DVD for backup as you can. I guess you never heard of RAID 1/RAID5 before.

The RAID 1 or RAID 5 are fault tolerance.

Um, I am pretty familiar with RAID. However, I don't need them. In fact, you are making a bad recommendation.
