...will be a netbook: the Asus Eee PC 1018PB-BK801.

I will solely be using this computer for my writing and to surf @ WiFi Hotspots around town.

So is this netbook a good buy?

Keep in mind that netbooks don't have a DC/DVD drive.

Also I'd make sure that the keyboard is comfortable for extended use ... netbook keyboards are often "cramped" especially for males (larger hands) or anyone with large hands/long fingers. I have long fingers and find that typing (ore than to surf etc) on netbooks and miniPCs in general is very awkward.

As long as both of these are ok for you ... then enjoy!

Can I (somehow) have the software installer file on a flash drive? Can that be done?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I know they sound dumb.

That netbook does not have CD drive. You need add external CD drive or external DVD drive for travel.

Then I will likely get the Gateway NV7915u. It's a cnet editor's choice laptop for under $600.

That link of laptop is Up to 3-hours 50 minutes... Try Apple iPad is just 10 hours runtime battery for you?

Well. Webcam sensor is poor which is 0.3 megapixel. Should be 1.3 MP or more.

Hi. I won a netbook through QuiBids.com - It's a HP one, I dont remember the model number, gotta to dig for that.

I honestly think a netbook is rip off, and its not really necessary. Its best off to purchase a laptop that comes with CD/DVD Drive.

I install couple of software by download the application to USB, off from my server, and some from Pirate Bay.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Epix (i907))

Lauren, I agreed with you. I would prefer a laptop due to screen estate and plus comes with optical drive. :)

who needs a laptop with dvd drive? I barely used it. I still have old external DVD & Floppy Drive via USB.

Confession to make - I do have a netbook in my restroom. Its better than reading magazine :)

I feel sorry for you

I don't need your pity. I just know what I need and what i don't.

I'm not the kind who use a computer just to surf the net and play Farmville 18 hours a day. I have other priorities.

Oh, I also have to write DVDs on a frequent basis... so... yes, I do need it.

According to your statement. *Agree with you* Its really unbelieveable that there's people out there who do farmville as if they're their 40 hours a week job.
