NEW YORK - Retailer Barnes & Noble says it will take on Amazon.com with an electronic bookstore that will allow customers to buy books to read on a variety of handheld platforms and computers.

The New York-based retailer says the store will provide access to more than 700,000 titles and up to 1 million titles within the next year. It says the store would be the world's largest eBookstore.

The bookseller is competing against Amazon.com Inc.'s early lead in the category. Electronic books have been a large focus for Amazon with its support of the Kindle reader.

The company also says that as part of its digital effort, it will be the exclusive content provider for the new Plastic Logic eReader device.

It doesn't say how much the ereader of Barnes and Noble will cost. I hope it is cheaper than the Kindle. That is too expensive for me.

Good luck Barnes & Noble. I sell books on Amazon.com.

Ditto ;)

I use Amazon, and they are reliable. I can get DVD, books, apparels thru there and I'm much satisfied with that. :)

I only can hope that B&N would make well fair cost toward clint such as most newspaper. And it should be on wi-fi at retails or at home to download. Gimme a large as possible to make feel fit as newspaper to read. No more paper. Woot!

The reason I said that because I learn that Amazon's Kindle that use CDMA which cost pretty much as it give a small profit to every clint whom sell their book or newspaper.

Dallas Newspaper refuse because they disagree with Amazon on the term that told Dallas would only earn pretty much as 20% of gross cost. Maybe less, I reckon. Amazon explain that it doesn't use the profit for themself but on CDMA service. Sound pretty expensive although....

Hi,

I heard about "eReaders War".

I don't know which one I order the ereader....? Maybe I am thinking about buying the ereader called "Augen 7 The Book"? It cost $100. from Kmart.

Which one...better ereader? Any idea?

You can get a download for your computer or iPhone or Android phone from the big three, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and Borders so the ereader is free that way.

The Augen has a bookstore preloaded where you can buy PDF books, but I don't think it has a big selection like the big bookstores.

Bottesini,
I don't have iPhone or smartphone....I have only Peek device (emails and Text only).

I am asking that which one better ....ereader devices....Nook, Kobo, iPad, and etc like that? I do want color, keyboard, portable, free wifi, and reasonable price...? Before I decide to buy or not?

I do know about free ebooks....like Blio software(release this month) and etc.
