Federal Gov't Halts Sand Berm Dredging - New Orleans News Story - WDSU New Orleans

First it was the 16 barges, now it's the berm dredging in the effort to help create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico near the shoreline.

The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

If the federal govt is concerned about the dredging then why the continued feet dragging after 64 days so far? They should have decided a long time ago about that by doing it themselves! Governor Bobby Jindal has been banging on the table about this very issue soon after the spill began. Really, who is in charge here? I don't think the fed govt or the Obama administration shows any real concerns or sense of urgency about this spill washing up on shore and into coastal waterways.

What is your solution? You shoot down everything else...how would you proceed with the clean up?

again? another delay? kokonut - what was the specific reason?

from what I know - dredging is extremely damaging to ecosystem because it kills the sensitive marine life living underwater. Dredging is where they digs up the underwater soil and put them on barge to use it for something else. This method is typically used to deepen the sea depth or "refill" the sand for beach or clean the superfund cleanup.
