SAN DIEGO -- Dozens of bike riders wore as little clothing as possible while through the streets of downtown San Diego Saturday.

Cyclists told 10News they were planning on riding naked but wore underwear after being told they could be arrested for public nudity.

Ride organizer Sarah Bush said, "it grabs people's attention and it also shows, represents our bodies as something not sexual but rather as a tool to get us around."

But some riders said it is also about drawing attention to the pollution created by cars and trucks. "Use less oil. The whole BP problem wouldn't have happened if more people were riding their bikes," said Eric Ortiz.

Organizers of the naked bike ride tried to get San Diego's nudity ordinance overturned, but the Ninth Circuit Court decided not to hear their case. So the city's nudity ordinance stands.

San Diego police were out in force. But Captain Mark Jones said arresting anybody was the last thing they wanted to do, "we don't expect first of all to have to issue any citations. The good thing about living in San Diego is most of the citizens are very cooperative when it comes to legally protesting."
