My Honda CR-V s rear brake is squealing while stopping. One rotor is not good. I need replacement one. I went garage shop to get estimate for four rotors, calipers and pads but service cost plus labor and tax is approx. $700. Too much. Do you think that s worth for this price? I will look for cheap cost of brake shop.

Sounds normal, why calipers? Torn dust boots? If the calipers are ok you might spend little bucks on rotors and pads, fix them yourself. I guess the rest of the parts execpt calipers, cost about $150. Chinese made rotors are ok, wont hurt you and money. Good luck

I agree with you. I think not need replacement calipers. I will go to other shop tomorrow to find out about price.

I don't get it that your CRV is barely 5 years old and needs new rear brakes? My car still have the orginial rotor and calipers...all I needed is new pads for the front. Drum and shoes pretty much last twice as long because they aren't used that much. It's not that difficult to replace the rotor and replace the pads if you have some experience with them.

Maybe the calipers are sticky or they're just ripping you off. Take it to other brake shop that can inspect it for you.

Thanks, sequoias, my CR-V s three year old. I found one rear rotor s cracking. need replacement one but they will inspect all of four disc brakes tomorrow.

That's all you need to replace a new brake pad and cut brake rotor depend how deep it is.

Replace all four rotors are rip off. It's useless.

The caliper need to rebuild like replace the new o-ring if it got stuck. It's cheaper than replace the new caliper.

Rotor got cracking? Sound like caliper got stuck cause rotor become overheat for long time. Just replace the new rotor.

Forget brake. Drive to San Francisco and you'll enjoy roller coaster like hills.

One rotor is worn out. I feel squealing while stopped.

You should check to see if you can bring your own parts. That's what I do. Especially tires.

Don't worry. My friend told me to find good brake shop and some repairman from Russian or Ukraine will work with cheap price.

The rotor is not crack. It just scratch when brake pad worn out. It's normal. That's all you need to replace the new two rear brake pads and one rotor. Make sure your caliper is not stuck. I hate to feel squealing.

I did replaced the new brake pads, new one caliper, and new one rotor on my Subaru before and it went smooth and great balance. I don't understand why most people said MUST replace BOTH calipers and both rotors.

$700 is rip off. That's all I spend under $140 for two brake pads, rotor, and caliper and I did by myself for half hour at both of wheels and drop to autoshop for brake bleeding thru ABS scan tool for $15. I don't want to spend $2k for scan tool. It should be around $200-$300 for you.

I see the scores on the rotor surface. The scored surface causes the friction on the metal pad was gone then metal pad grind the rotor surface while braking as you feel grinding thru brake pedal. "Metal to metal". No wonder why a mechanic sell you calipers. Maybe I am wrong?

Why bother for both calipers if one is good? I just wonder.

I think to need one new rotor (new caliper if necessary) and four pads at all.

well, the repair shops in everywhere, they want to sell reman calipers even the OEM calipers looks fine and no trouble with torn dust boots or leaky or worn bushings, is always rip offs. Service managers/writers and mechanics are earning wages by thru sell jobs/labors.
At Goodyear tire center in long time ago, I inspected brakes, found undersized rotors with new pads that matched the customer's low brake pedal travel complaint. The front calipers were so good condition. I wrote the RO paper to revealed the low pedal travel caused by thin rotors (undersized) and recommend 2 front rotors. This brake job was doned by this place by someone who fixed it. The service writer explained to a customer that the calipers were no good, need 2 reman calipers and new rotors. Customer oked to the repairs.
You think I bang a customer for reman calipers? That is why the repair shops do that for years. I'm sure you will love to be a mechanic.
