I have been to Smokey's "house" in Capitan. Real close to my place in Ruidoso. Smokey Bear was his name. The 'the" was added to make the Smokey song flow better is what they said there. "He's prowlin' and he's growlin' when he sniffs the air.....He's Smokey the Bear" Something like that. Cool little place and a good hamburger joint accross the street.

what a horrible posters showing of the wolves attacking Smokey! A bear would more likely to attack a person than a wolf! That poster was made to made people hate and fear wolves! It had nothing to with do stopping fires!

Ahh, no, no....you can see the little baby Smokey bear and a racoon up the tree....(and we thought Smokey The Bear didn't have any kids?)....The wolves are depicted to look "hungry" and perhaps trying to attack the baby bear and the racoon (small prey)...and good ol' Smokey The Bear was protecting them....Smokey The Bear is a folk hero....whether it's preventing forest fires, protecting wildlife....or throwing dirt on his Hot ol' Lady and beating her with a shovel!.....
