Comments (0)BOSTON -- A proposed ban on cleavage at a Massachusetts school was shot down Wednesday night at a school committee meeting.

Should junior high school students be prohibited from wearing clothes that show too much cleavage?



Committee member Francis G. Simanski proposed the ban on low-cut shirts at Tantasqua Regional Junior High School, according to the Telegram and Gazette.

Principal Jennifer R. Lundwall said she was concerned about how the district would respond if cleavage-baring clothes were added to the list of prohibited fashions.

"To make our teachers in a position where they are scrutinizing and drawing more attention to the cleavage is very uncomfortable to me," Lundwall told the newspaper.

Simanski's proposal was shot down in a 7-5 vote.

There are going to be some young ladies that will be naturally curvy and they cannot help being born this way.

To be told how to dress and to cover up their assets is adding more insult to their vulnerable self-esteem.

Growing up, I was very busty for my age and it was very difficult dressing up without attracting attention.
 
Hmm, interesting article.

Why does the school have the teachers to be the fashion police? It should fall on the parents shoulders to teach their kids how to dress properly. Of course, we know that some parents are too lenient about this dress code. So, with that being said, I can see why the school HAVE to step in to take dire measure of this situation.

Personally, I don't think it should be banned. However, it should be in moderation. There are some shirts that has it cut way deep low which seems to show the most obvious assets (that I wouldn't be ok with) but with shirts that has it slightly cut down low would be fine as long as it doesn't show most of the assets.

As for self-esteem, the girls should build confidence by being able to dress properly and yet still, look 'fabulous' without adding the 'trashy' note on it.
 
I remember when I was in high school in the 80s, I got sent home for wearing biker shorts. It taught me a good lesson and I never wore anything that revealing again at school.
 
I've got all boys, but if I had a daughter, I would go with her to buy clothes. And not too tight, or showing too much cleavage....(Or is it cleaverage?)....I have seen some teen girls with the tighest jeans ever! Don't think they are too comfortable when you have to sit down in class for hours.....unless it's stretch jeans....

Boys are already "highly charged" by girls wearing too tight clothes and see thru, low cut/shirts/tops....with little or nothing left to the imagination....Girls can be just as beautiful wearing loosely fitting clothes that flatter their figures without having to show their breasts. I would be disappointed if my boys brought home a girl with her breasts exposed or half exposed....I would give her a blouse and tell her to "cover up".

I remember that one of my friends in high school was quite busty for her age due to her medications (she couldn't help it). No matter how much she covered up, even in a sweater and a pair of pants, her busty figure still showed, and everyone in the whole school would call her a whore or a trashy girl or something sexist. I thought that was quite rude and offensive.

I was send home from public school in the 60's for wearing a dress that was too short! Girls had to get down on their knees and if their dress or skirt did not touch the floor it was too short!
 
Next they'll require all busty females to get a breast reduction surgery or be expelled. :roll:

When I was in high school, dress codes were very strict. Girls had to kneel on the floor if a teacher suspected their skirt was too short and if the hem didn't touch the back of their calf, they were sent home. When I was a junior, they finally started letting girls wear dress slacks. Then as a senior, both boys and girls were allowed to wear jeans. Prior to that, jeans were a no-no, and boys had to wear button down shirts and a belt with their dress slacks. There were a lot of parents that cheered when the code got changed. It was really expensive to keep up with the dress codes.

No I think they made busty females get a breast reduction surgery or not be able to get insurance! Some people kind having big breasts can made a woman back hurt! Get smaller breast or we'll not pay for back pain!

Something should be said and done about some silly people who spend too much time proposing ridiculous claims.

We cannot control or manipulate human nature.

Nobody can force girls to get breast reduction...it is their bodies and their rights to keep their bodies the way they are or change it.

I remmy this one girl that was 4'10, and had very huge breasts....They hung to her waist, or almost....Yes, I felt sorry for her! Her shirts practically hung off of her, she was made fun of...I made it a point to stand up for her and befriend her....if her family could have afforded breast reduction, she would have been a 1st class candidate.....the first in line.

Girls with breasts like these suffer from low self-esteem too. I can't imagine carrying "huge" breasts around, very uncomfortable, bad on ur back and having people talking to you and not looking you in the face, only at ur breasts.....even trying to "touch" them.
 
Too much cleavage? Why are junior high girls showing any cleavage?

They should cover up.

People shouldn't mock other people for their physical shapes of any kind.

Just being busty isn't the same as showing cleavage. Showing cleavage means showing naked skin. Young ladies can be "busty" but covered, and that would be fine. Even young ladies who are flat chested can show too much skin, and that's what the rule would "cover."

Wives of course can feel free to keep an eye on their man. Ya can look, but ya can't touch! :P

Have you notice the way little girls clothes are made today! My daughter and I could not believe some of the dresses and shoes for kids ! It look like some thing a hooker would wear!
