I just got P3 rebranded Dell Mini 10. I am wondering are there a way to increase video memory from 8mb to 128mb? There are no shared memory configuration in BIOS. Not even in Intel GMA software too.

Suggestions?

I have never heard that the GC can be replaced. I think it's sort of chipsets soldered on the main board.

Keeps in mind, netbook do not design for gamer and what do you need 128 VRAM for?

Watch streaming video and smoother VP chat. I read that GMA 500 does have 128mb max shared memory. It's just that Dell BIOS are simple to prevent anyone to increase it.

I already downloaded most recent Intel GMA 500 driver and Flashplayer 10.1 beta. Youtube, Hulu.com and other flash base streaming video running smooth but if you tried full screen, it chops a bit.

They should have set it 64mb minimuim instead of 8mb for Today's standard as a basic use.

If there's nothing I can do about it then that's no problem.

Wonder if DeafScooter can hack it for us? :rofl2:

I wonder about Phoenix BIOS Editor would do to open up hidden settings of BIOS? I would give it a try.

Ah. You need to find the right hack firmware for BIOS to overwrite/upgrade. So you can change everything whatever you wish at BIOS. You need to open the netbook to ID for BIOS and motherboard model. I never like SOME Dell's firmware BIOS because they are so limited.

I've hacked BIOS before. It use Phoenix so I use Phoenix BIOS editor (not pro version). Opens up the BIOS.bin file. I did find more settings and I tweaked it. It did work. No need to look up BIOS chipset ect. it's already listed on Editor software. Basically, you just edit the BIOS then flash to BIOS chipset.. I am going to see what I can find. It's risky tho. Otherwise I would have dead netbook on my hand

To be honest, I would look for "shared video 8mb" and if I do see it, I would try change it to 128mb and save it then try flash it to chipset. OR try to enable the "Shared Video" listing in BIOS. If I don't see it then I won't bother it.

If I got any luck with it, I'll post it.

Lastly, I agree with you 110% that Dell's BIOS are so limited. I don't understand why Dell would just limited it and sell it when other netbook brands can do up to 224mb shared video or greater. This would make Dell look bad. I bought it cheap so I can just use it for biz temporarily.

I am able to watch Hulu.com no problem, I was watching "Blind Sumari" last night on netbook. Video ran smooth. Also Youtube video ran smooth too. If anyone have P3 Netbook and their streaming video are crappy, try this two things, Update Intel GMA 500 video software and download Beta version of Flashplayer 10.1. For GMA 500 software, be sure you choose most recent for XP (Dec. 2009).

Here's the link (it's a blog but scroll down a bit and you'll see the links as well) :
