I've been learning how to use caption software and test-captioned some Youtube videos I thought I'd share. Series of 3 for the Tesla "Model S" electric car. Just some vids I find interesting (I don't work for Tesla)

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Feedback appreciated. I basically used youtube's auto-captions and downloaded, edited and re-uploaded. One gripe I have is when people talk really fast, it seems to me, there is too much to show in a short period of time. Would love to hear feedback on pacing.

Have a nice day.

EDIT: Oops sorry, didn't see the captions section :aw: if someone can move it, I don't see an option to delete.

Added Three more vids:

Marlee Matlin on Extreme Makeover

Wow, thanks for that video on Neil deGrasse Tyson! That was really good, and really inspiring. Important and timely words. I think you captioned it like a pro. I had no problem understanding it and felt that it was all in time. Anyone who uses captions regularly is used to quick talking, and having sentences broken up. Don't worry about.

Nice job on the Tyson clip; are you able to increase the font size? Like by double?

I noticed, that when widescreen Youtube videos are embedded into another site, they scrunch down the captions. If you play it on the actual Youtube site, they are bigger.

Nothing in my control unfortunately.

Thanks for the feedback. One thing I'm struggling with is getting through who is talking, e.g. the Marlee Matlin clips. With two people I noted it is common to use >> and << to show who is talking, but when there are lots of people talking I feel the need to use "Name: " which I find hurts the flow of the reading. The Matlin clips are especially annoying because there is a lot of voice-over and people begin talking before they appear on screen. But that's why I'm posting here for some feedback.

I got some other Neil Tyson clips I plan to post eventually. I love listening to that man, he's got lots of interesting things to say.

Nice job on the captions so far!

I have a couple of suggestions for when you have multiple people speaking and some of your other concerns.

You should just start out with the name of the person speaking. Don't put in a voice over designation. It is not communicating anything that is essential to understanding the show. It is just extraneous information.

When you use the name of the person, you can put it in all capitol letters, MARLEE:, or you can use a first capitol letter, Marlee:, the first option helps the name of the person talking to jump out and emphasis when the speaker has changed. This helps to understand the conversation better.

In the second video with Marlee in it, it looks like the guy presenting the check is saying "Wow" in the middle of his speech. If you had put in that Ty was saying "Wow" it would make it more clear.

You did a tremendous job with the timing and flow of the words on screen. :P That is one of the hardest parts about adding the captions in. Unfortunately, when someone is talking fast, the only thing that you can do is try and get as much in as you can. It is never pretty, it just has to work.

Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for the feedback aRachel. I haven't had time to get more up as I'm working on my main project. I like the caps for names. I appreciate all the advice :D
