Yes. Hawaii is a good example of that. Islands created over a hotspot that produced those islands. The smaller islands westward gets progressively older and smaller. Gets eroded over time. Hawaii is the youngest island. And there is an underground island being built, too, near Hawaii.

oh just referring to seq's post about island and coral reefs. Volcano can play a role in that beside earthquake.

Moving magma within a volcano or deep below creates those earthquakes. However, neither a volcano nor a subduction action played any role in the Indonesian earthquake that created the deadly tsunami.

What is unclear is why did sequoias bring up the Indonesian earthquake and tsunami, and mentioning about some video that was "clearer."
