HP Slate

One thing which is interesting, my company is working on iPad program for the resturants which allow an instant update of the menu and along with picture of what it look like. It also will tell you what "food for the day", like soup for the day, fish for the day and will tell you if it is available. You know how sometime resturants will say "Sorry, we are out of Salmon", so it will show up on iPad. And finally will give out nutrition info. Also, you know with Ipad, when you touch what you want, it will instantaniously report to the chef. Finally it will give out the total price.
The Resturant say that it save their cost of re-printing the menu booklet, and paper free. So, once the iPad is release on April 3rd, we will install the application and test it out. It too bad that the resturant could've wait little longer to test out other "mini boards" and see how that goes and compare prices.

What's happen if customer accident drop the iPad or take it to home by mistake. The menu booklet don't change so much. Maybe once a month or once a three months or once a year depend on their company.

Yes, that is correct but this particular resturant do change menu often. It's their speciality of servicing the top 5 stars resturant. You may noticed that they have single sheet paper tucked in the menu booklet which represent as special meal of the day or week? That changed often. As far as what I'm reading in their design, the resturant owner planning on having fix "carousel" in the center of the table. Also, interesting noticed (of what I just found out) that the owner get money from advertisment company to have it display on ipad with their own advertisment. Like advertising "Mini Pad!", the most flexable comfortable hygine for woman. I may move away from that table!

Like I said above, they are planning to have fix setting on the table and the power adapter plugged in under the table.

Worse idea ever. I know restaurant have over 20 tables at middle of the build and too much wires around, no way to drill to add power outlet on the floor since they are cement. Also table can move anytime for customer's wish.

iPad have 10 hours that's pretty enough for all day business.

I ever wonder if I can install 'Buntu' in HP Slate  Linuxes also can work with touchscreen tho. I would love to see more of Linux Slate or Pads.

Downside of Slate or iPad is that you must have carrying case to protect its screen from scratches. Contrast to some laptops that you can rotate screen and fold it to turn it to Slate and you can always rotate the screen back and fold it in clamshell to protect screen.

Or they can have several extra recharged iPads in back of kitchen so they can swap out dead one for recharged one quickly. It's pretty much similiar to my work that have 20 scanners on rack and 1/4 of scanners are spare ready for swap out if one scanner battery went low or dead. But it may cost a bit more. It's cost/benefit to use. Think of that, iPad would recharge in 1 hours or less for 10 hours uses. Waiter/waiteress can keep eye on battery levels while cleaning the table, swap it out when it's low.. Thus no need to drill or add power adapter for it. In that way customers sitting at table will have fully charged iPads every visit.

Recharge too much that will ruin battery life. Less recharge and long battery life. Once a day for recharge is ok but three times a day is very bad idea.

Just watch out battery load cycle.

Scanner is easy to replacement the battery by yourself but iPad, You have send it to Apple for replacement the battery.

http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/battery/

The service costs $99, plus $6.95 shipping. The total cost is $105.95 per unit.
All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax.
