defamatory remarks made about you

Yes dealing with a University is very difficult and they can make your life a living hell. I left Texas Tech because of this....

In my case I took a US History course. I had a 97 average going into the final exam. In this course the final counted the same as all the tests and could be dropped....but it had to be taken. The syllabus stated that no make up exams would be given for any reason. As luck would have it my grandfather passed away and the funeral was scheduled for the day of the final. I asked to take the final early even but I was denied. I was given a zero for the final and received a C in the course. I fought it for a year because had I shown up for the final and answered one question I would have received an A. The University never gave in. I lost all of my appeals and they made my life hell until I left.

oh jeez

was this long time ago?

Oh yeah.......in the 80's......I'm old:lol:

lol  I thought so. Yea the time was different where youths had nearly no rights at all. You obviously know that the time has changed and there are specific rules and procedures for most kind of scenarios including yours. My college friend at Virginia Tech had a similar situation like yours so he was given a 2nd chance - no problem. At Rutgers University, I missed the final exam because I had an unexpected incident that was beyond my control - my car blew a clutch in middle of highway on the way to class. I provided a proof of towing service and the professor accepted it.

Every (well I hope all) college syllabus CLEARLY mentions that in any case of dire emergency like family death or illness (with doctor note), you're A-OK. and plus it mentions about needing a special accommodation. I'm very disappointed to hear that Glenn is not having this kind of standard that I received from several colleges.

what a sham CWU is :nono:

I am glad things are different now.

BTW Glenn....Didn't mean to hijack your thread.....my intent was to re-enforce what Jiro said about handling things nicely.

I hope most universities have changed by now!!! Apparently Glenn's university is still in 80's

sometimes despite of handling things nicely.... and you lost.... that sucks big time. But hey... you did your best and you didn't go down without a fight!!!!

karma's a beautiful evil thing and chance is - that guy may not win the fight next time against somebody else because your fight will be in the previous record and that person may be able to establish the pattern.

AND I learned the most important lesson that I ever learned. See that Prof was one of three or 4 that I had that actually made you sign the syllabus. That's why they never gave in. Lesson learned???? Never sign something unless you are willing to accept the consequences no matter how remote they seem.

yep. focus on a very big picture - the lack of accommodation. the incompetence on their part. keep on pressing on that very specific issue. If you win this - you most likely may have paved a way for people before you.

Keep on truckin'! :cool2:
I'm not quitting this any time soon. As one of my supporters said today: "Make their stupidity painful." Even after I am done here, I'm not done with them.

Jiro also nailed everything else I had to say. All I have to say here is to keep your chins up, behave, and smile.

Good luck bro.

Just so you know, I think they're fucking with the wrong person.
