Routers

I did port forwarding on Dlink DIR-628 for customer last night because of the black screen. I noticed that it seems disconnecting for a minute, then it works.

I picked up the router today and I also bought a webcam as well. It's not the best quality webcam, but at least it works. The webcam is a Logitech QuickCam Chat. I know there are better ones out there but it works and I am all set.

The router was relatively easy to set up. It would not accept the preset username and password, so I set it up using their other directions ans setiing the firewalls and security through Windows. My son is on the internet with the netbook in the other room and I am here in my room with you guys. Not bad at all. It won't work with my daughter's Nintendo DS unless I make it public instead of private, but that's not gonna happen.

Were you using WAP2 security? Most devices still have issue connecting to WAP2 setting or WAP2/WAP setting

So try using WAP security only setting and it still a good security protocol which is fine for home use.

I don't know what you are talking about.

I have DS and it won't work well with WPA1 and WPA2. Only work on WEP. DS is useless to me and I don't want to change from WPA2 to WEP for DS due weak security.

Thank god, Nintendo Wii work fine with WPA2.

I don't think daughter really needs to have her DS go WiFi, but son used to do it a lot in Missouri at Burger King.

Yes, it works fine. Go into the Wii internet settings, select search for access point, it'll detect the router along with the security settings. All you need to do is enter your security key (WEP or WPA).

This QuickCam Chat is not good. CMOS sensor is poor video. You should get other Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. high resolution video as CCD sensor than CMOS. Logitech® Webcam Pro 9000

It costs $75.00 or low cost at Best buy or other stores. You better return back QuickCam Chat webcam to store,

It may not be the best, but I can't afford $75 right now. Money is very tight. Since our move to Florida, hubby is making only half of what he did in Missouri. Also, I don't think there's a best buy around here.

Have come up with a new problem and can't figure out how to fix it.

I had everything working well with the router and my desktop and netbook, then AT&T turned my phone back on and since then I have been having troubles getting a good connection with my netbook through the wireless service.

It keep saying " This connection has limited or no connectivity". I'm not sure what to do. I hate being so computer illiterate, but help!!

Okay - I get that, but how do I do that? I don't know how to do that.

I am ignorant regarding new technology these days. :giggle:

You log in to your router settings by going to your browser address bar and type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter. put in the password (if you made one before - dlink default is admin) Find your wireless settings page and uncheck the box for enable auto channel scan and set the channel number to 6 or 11 (ither one, I use 6). save the settings, close the browser, and let the router reboot itself for a few minutes. After that, try connecting to the network again.

That's how I fixed mine. I thought my blackberry was causing it, but it seems the computers were defaulting to channel 6, while the router kept changing channels and disconnecting me. Now it works great. BTW, it's the same 615 router yo0u have.

I tried that and now my netbook says that it can't connect due to not being able to verify the certificate. I don't know what's going on and I'm just ready to ditch the whole thing!!!

Certificate? That's not a router problem. At least I don't think it is.

After doing what I posted you may have to go into wireless networking on the computer and delete your old connection and then find the wireless network name in the wireless networks list and re setup the wireless connection. After that it should work. Know anyone who can set it up for you?

no - I will see if I can do that tomorrow. Son is using the netbook right now.
