Animal Shelter Owners Face Foreclosure - Project Economy News Story - KCRA Sacramento

A shelter that focuses on senior and special-needs animals could close if it doesn't raise thousands of dollars by the end of the month.

David and Deanna Bartley fit 20 dogs in their home, which also serves as the A Chance For Bliss animal shelter in Penryn.

Among the dogs are Bernie, who's 19 and almost blind, and Joy, the resident watchdog who's also partially deaf.

Many of the dogs are in diapers, and some are on the verge of death.

The couple takes care of 23 horses, 15 farm animals, nine fowl, three cats and two rabbits.

Right now, all 73 animals on the verge of being homeless, along with the Bartleys, who are facing foreclosure.

The Bartleys said they need $65,000 to pay their mortgage and to save their animals before the end of the month.

If this is in their home, it seems like animal hoarding syndrome, and these animals need rescued from their caretakers and taken to proper shelters.

I found their website and it looks like that they are taking in seniors and special-need pets so they can live out their life. I doubt that they are animal hoarders. It is good that you are concerned about animal hoarding. I learned that term from the Animal Planet.

Forgot to add the website link: http://www.achanceforbliss.com/index.html

No offense, but if they actually do have hoarding symptoms, they wouldn't be willing to be published in a newspaper.

Hoarding is frown upon, and people know that so they cover it up so others won't shun them.

If they are on the verge of death... then the most humane thing to do is to let them go....

This does show signs of hoarding. and keeping animals as they are suffering.

If you do look at their website at "history" (A Chance for Bliss, Inc. Animal Sanctuary), you will see that they did euthanized some of the animals. Lots of the dogs look like Boston terriers or BT mix.

Besides if they are hoarding dogs, they won't be putting up the website. I just don't think the hoarders would make it public.

Well since they did make it public. I doubt they will receive funding to be able to keep their Mortgage up, due to keeping sick animals. More than likely the state will take over..
