Interesting. A bunch of Jeffersons, related to the convicted Congressman, has a history of getting into trouble...mostly of the money type. Look at the family rap sheet!

When you think about it, the family rap sheet is pretty spectacular:

- Bill Jefferson, the nine-term New Orleans congressman, was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for using his official position to pursue various business ventures in Africa.

- Mose Jefferson was convicted in the school board case and awaits trial for allegedly skimming money from government-financed nonprofit groups.

- Betty Jefferson, the sitting 4th District Assessor in New Orleans, stands accused in the same case, along with her daughter Angela Coleman and former City Councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt, Mose Jefferson's longtime significant other.

- And yet another Jefferson sibling, Brenda Foster, has already pleaded guilty in that nonprofit case.

- And don't forget Bill Jefferson's brother-in-law, former Jefferson Parish judge Alan Green, who was convicted in 2005 of mail fraud in yet another completely unrelated investigation.

Mose Jefferson took the stand as a witness in that trial too -- under subpoena by the same U.S. Attorney's office that later targeted him

I guess it actually does run in the family when it comes to skimming money, bribery and so on. Bill Jefferson happened to be the worst of the bunch. Good riddance.

(took me a while to find out who he is)
??? His "frozen assets" scandal has been on national news for months. I'm surprised you didn't know about it.

I didn't even bother to find out who he is. He's just as corrupted as rest of politicians - regardless of political party. OLD NEWS!
His sentencing wasn't "old" news at the time of posting. It was an update.

no. this whole farce is old news. has been going for centuries.

That's why it's good to inform the public about what's up with corrupt politicians. A conviction and sentence are steps in the right direction.

nobody cares because majority of them got a free pass - which has been like that for centuries. nothing new. it's about time to see this one getting something more than a spank on the butt.

I guess Obama's preaching about accountability is true after all...

Obviously somebody cares or it wouldn't make the news or be posted. :)

Reba, obviously so. Or they wouldn't be following this.

Kind of like a picture of empty seats in a movie theater but that was before interested people started coming in to fill those seats up.

just because this news was posted doesn't mean readers demand it. readers and reporters. reporters have bills to pay... thus they post news like this. readers... however a different story... do not care.

makes you wonder why news business is declining... and merging together. *hint hint - less garbage, more happy news is the solution :) *

but only 4 people came. me, reba, saywhatkid, and netrox. I came cuz of pity :aw:

*pat on your back*

Less garbage; less horror stories; more local reporting would be the solution.

ding ding ding ding ding! right on the dot. It's not that we are apathetic to this. we just don't want to hear this on constant basis. We know corruption & bribery happens on daily basis. we know politicians are corrupted and greedy. we know and we don't care because it does not concern us unless we are from New Orleans. we know they will eventually get caught and prosecuted.

We only want to know what's going on around us.... within 10 miles. not several states away. It's getting harder and harder to get local news because they tend to decay away to bankruptcy or get merged up with national newspaper.

Now, I got where "cold cash" comes from! I think I vaguely remember reading something about a politician stashing cash in freezer and it looks like it was that Jefferson incident.

A lot of politicians are capable of doing things that are illegal or immoral, regardless of political party.

But since he's in Louisiana, I don't care. :)

He represented a district in Louisiana in our national Congress for nine terms. He voted on national issues. So it wasn't just state news, it was national. Bribery that influences congressional votes can affect all Americans.

I came because...I forget why. Must be that old man brain freeze stuff.

The whole point is, some people are obsessed with bashing half of our government. There are people on both sides that do it. They look the other way when one of their posse does wrong, but holler "foul" when the bad side does it.

At some point, the redundancy wears at the credibility of the OPs. It's like "Hey, we get it. You want to dig under every stone. You will never relent until your group has the reins again." I suppose we will then be allowed to listen to you strut and crow about fear and tax reductions and fiscal responsibility, even if there is none. Blinders on....CHECK!

It ain't fear I smell. I smell obsession and redundancy, with possible racist overtones. If anyone looks hard enough, there are websites that will support their wildest claims.

Maybe Obama bowed so low because his head is heavy from his huge ego. Why not connect the dots?

Your point is? I mean, this is just a Liberal thing? Those Conservatives are too busy with being in church and protesting at Planned Parenthood?

Really? What bribes did Jefferson give to congresspeople that influences the vote of anything that *could have* been different as a Democrat?

What I mean is that I don't think he voted anything different on national issues like that would deviate from "standard Democratic positions" just as a Republican who commit the same may have voted anything different from the standard Republican positions.

By any means, I am glad he was caught and that the bad ones should be removed from Congress.
