Hello everyone, my name is Nina and I'm a hearing person. I am taking an ASL class as some of you probably already guessed and I need some feedback on a song I'm trying to gloss. I hope putting this in general chat is ok?

Anyway the song is Angel from Montgomery by John Prine

This is what I came up with, but it was harder than I thought and any help is very much appreciated! The capital lines are my ASL version. I apologize in advance if I totally destroyed the ASL version, I've been taking ASL for about a month.

I am an old woman
Named after my mother
An old man is another
Child whos grown old

ME OLD WOMAN ME
MY NAME SAME MOTHER NAME MY
OLD MAN IS CHILD GROW OLD

If dreams were thunder
Lightning was desire
This old house it wouldve burned down
A long time ago

DREAMS SIMILAR THUNDER
LIGHTENING SIMILAR DESIRE
HOUSE OLD LONG TIME AGO BURN

Make me an angel
That flies from montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin
Is just a hard way to go

YOU MAKE+ANGEL HE FLIES FROM fs-MONTGOMERY FOR ME
YOU MAKE+RODEO POSTER OLD GIVE ME
YOU GIVE ME ONE THING I CAN GRAB
ME BELIEVE LIVING IS HARD WAY DIE ME

When I was a young girl
I had me a cowboy
It wasnt much to look at
It was a free ramblin man
There was a long time
No matter how I tried
The years they just rolled by
Like a broken down dance

ME YOUNG MEET fs-COWBOY ME
HE NOTHING BEAUTIFUL HE
HE WANDERING HE
ME TRY STOP TIME ME
TIME PASS SIMILAR SAD DANCE

Thanks to everyone who can help :)

I'll be honest here -

That is one of the tougher songs to try to interpret, and for a student who has been taking ASL only for a month I think you're doing a hell of a job.

The only matter I have is the last sentence in the last two "paragraphs." The ones where you will try signing "me believe living hard way die me" and "time pass similar sad dance."
The problem I have is that I can't come up with any suggestions. Maybe in a few hours when I wake up. :giggle:

Good luck.

What's with all the "Me"..."Me"??? Jeez....I really dunno what to say here....it sounds elementary to me....Not a darn thing wrong with signing the song in proper English is there?

Well

It's an exercise to try and improve my ASL grammar, the "me" parts are to properly identify the subject grammatically in ASL- is this use incorrect? I'm just trying to get used to sentence structure I guess? I'm not sure what you mean by proper English to be honest I don't want to sign it in english, I want to sign it in ASL.

It is for signing "I" "Me" both same sign language.

And ASL is a totally different from English, and to be honest I've seen a few people translate songs into ASL that made me UNDERSTOOD the song, i would have never understood otherwise. I'm not much of a song person.

The way you use it is fine. It's about how you express it which is very tricky.
(I am a Deaf interpreter if you needed to know my qualifications.)

Maybe I'm totally off the mark here but I would sign SUPPOSE DREAMS SIMILAR THUNDER instead of just DREAMS SIMILAR THUNDER.
