The world's first super light electric folding bike

Wow, that's really odd looking bike there. It sure moves pretty fast, interesting.

Unusual design, but it's the same concept as a wheelchair, except its only 22 lbs.

Looks very interesting. But the seating doesn't seem that comfortable to ride on.

I would buy one to use.

i rode a bike with similar seating positionings, actually 2 different kinds...its kinda unnerving as 'forward' thinking is 'put behind' so in effect you're ahead of where your bars are going, erriee because like you dont see your bars...
what i rode was a pushbike, with a lengthened wheelbase and sitting low.
It is probably harder, because you have to pedal to power the bike as well as to co-ordinate for your manoveuring. This electric bike might actually be easier with one less thing to do, so you focus more on the directions.

Great idea. Any bike gets stolen where I live. Maybe I could carry it wherever I go.

oh wow! I'd like to try it out but I see one major safety issue. When you're on bike and you go thru pothole or some object on the road, most of time - you will not fall face-forward like a superman aka "faceplant". I can see you can easily get faceplant'ed with this bike. :hmm:

and.. this doesn't look like a comfortable ride if you're on uneven road. talk about bone-jarring vibration!

price tag: $5,100 ~ $5,700 :eek3:
speed: 12.5 mph
range: up to 6 miles

How safe is the YikeBike?
One of the key aims of the YikeBike design was to make it very safe and safer than a bicycle:

* Electronic anti-skid brakes give it smooth braking and a short stopping distance.
* Built in brake lights and indicators mean you don't have to take your hands off to signal.
* The rider is in an upright position to allow better visibility in traffic – easier to both see and be seen.
* Short wheel-base means it is more manoeuvrable.
* Speed limited so that it can never go faster than 20 km/h even down hill.
* Super-fast acceleration to allow you to avoid trouble if necessary.
* Distinctive sound so people know you are coming.
* Built in lights that are on all the time, making you more visible to others.
* The handlebars are at the side rather than in front so in the event of an accident or need for an emergency stop the rider’s head or body is not catapulted into an obstacle.

What happens when I brake hard?
The YikeBike is the first in the world to have electronic anti-skid brakes, giving smoother braking and a shorter stopping distance than a bicycle. It is likely that you will jump off the front of a YikeBike in an emergency braking situation – this is very easy as there are no handle bars in the way.

After seeing what it's capable of, it seems to be heavy on bells and whistles. I would rather spend $2,000 on a super-light road bike and ride it. It would have:

price tag: $300 - $3,000
speed: 50+ mph
range: up to 100 miles or more, depending on your physical strength
weight: 10 - 30 lbs
recharge: none, it's your body

yep! this electric bike = bold idea but an EPIC FAIL! in terms of practicality and cost

AGREED!! I was left wondering about its design. It sure look "scary" to ride, not that it's scary to ride on it but riding over the pothole, deep curbs ect. Betcha "faceplanted" would be the term to use for Yikebike.

Otherwise.. Wear a FULL FACED Helmet with enough pads to stuff in.

:rofl2:

It only goes about 10 KM per charge... let me know when it goes further... like 40-50 km!
