Last night I returned home from my two weeks trip to Australia via Vancouver. Sure I had a blast time there. I went to Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania and I have fallen in love with Melbourne which is so rich in multi-cultruralism and so nicely mixed with modern and Victorian-style building designs.

I held a wombat and petted Tasmanian Devils, koalas, kangaroos, emus and a few other animals. I was unable to hold koalas cuz of their state laws and I was told that six of seven Australian states passed new laws that did not allow people except vets, park rangers and scientiss, to hold koalas. Queensland is only the state in Australia that still allows people to do it.

Also I got a few tips about hotel bookings and transportation.

I know there is much more to do sightseeing in Australia and I plan to go there again in several years.

Fire away!

in several years? damn. that trip really poked a hole in your pocket, si?

No, not really. I got some friends who welcomed me to stay there. I stayed in a 4 1/2 star hotel that I managed to save bit over 50 percent at last minute booking during my final three nights in Sydney.

:D

I will post some pics and video clips sometimes this week. I got alot of them.

At this moment I feel a bit jetlagged. Imagine that I had about 21 hours flight on two different routes from Sydney to Ottawa.

Sounds like you had great time in Australia. :thumb:

1) Did you find the people there to be friendlier than the people in Canada and the United States?

2) What would you recommend for me to do/see when I go back to Australia one day?

My answers:

1.) People in Melbourne and Tasmania are the friendliest and most helpful people that I had ever met. People in Sydney are friendly.

2.) There are alot of things that you might want to see in Australia. I openly admit that two weeks vacation is not enough. :mad2:

Sydney

Going to Manly on a ferry. Make sure that you leave Sydney after 2 p.m. and return to Sydney after 6:30 p.m. during their wintertime. You can take pictures and video clips of beautiful glowing Sydney downtown while the ferry is returning there.

Sydney Tower

Opera House

Harbour Bridge

Featherdale Park

Olympic Park

Darling Harbour

Tarango Park Zoo

Chinatown

The Rocks

Melbourne

Downtown Melbourne - the best of the bestest in the world IMHO! Chinatown, art galleries, skyscrapers and so on are there.

Victoria School for the Deaf - the oldest and existing school for the Deaf in Australia

Old Mebourne Gaol (Jail) - where Australia's the most famous and legendary vriminal Ned Kelly was imprisoned and hanged for his crimes

Eureka Tower - Wow! You can go up to 88th Floor where the observation deck is. What's more is they have a cool feature called the Edge where the glass cube with several people inside is slided out and in of the building for looking anywhere.

Rod Laver Stadium and surrounding areas - it is where the Australian Tennis Open is played. It is even adjacent to about 36 tennis courts! :eek3:

MCG - it is the most well known sports stadium where the cricket and Aussie Rule Football games are played. The Aussie Rule Football field is about two times and a half bigger than NFL football field. :eek3: My friend, his two kids and I went to AFL game at Ethiad Stadium and it was so interesting.

The Shrine - It is a place to honour Australia's dead soldiers from wars that they took part in. It is one of the most beautiful and well-respected buildings in speaking of respecting war dead that I had ever seen.

Melbourne 360 Deck

Victorian Market

Tasmania

I went to the eastern shore which was quite interesting. It is excellent for people who enjoys beaches, camping and sightseeing. Pyengana Valley is the most beautiful spot in Australia that I had ever seen. It has very much reminded me of some beautiful valleys in Europe. Also if you want to experience their rain forests, you can drive thru Myrtle Forest which is beautiful and amazing. Beware of their roads! :)

Also I suggest you to go to several natural wildlife reserve parks there. The one that I went is East Coast Natureworld which is amazing. It is where I held a wombat and petted kangaroos, tasmanian devils, wallaballies and others. Even they let you walk into large cages and watch some birds fly around and over you.

Binalong Bay - it is a lovely place where many young people go to beach for surfing and also some rich people own some beautiful mansions there.

I spent only three days in Tasmania and I realized that there were much more that I wanted to see there.

Wow! You are great time in Australia. I still consider to travel in Australia next year. I wish to go with deaf group or AD group.

Royale, did you climb up on Sydney Harbour Bridge? Fear?

Did you get to go to the Blue Mountains?

How did you travel from one place to another? (I went by car down the Gold Coast from Brisbane to Melbourne!!!! That was looooong ;) )

Did you drive down the Gold Coast? (which I absolutely LOVED btw!!!) But there were sooooo many lovely places I could imagine myself to live... I'd be bored to death at some point, but with nice view onto the Pacific Ocean :D

What about Great Ocean Road? That's a must see too... but I guess there's TONS of stuff to see... I'll never tire of Australia and I wish I could go there again :D

19 hours of flight (without connection time)... it's loooong and I hated it!!!! The first time it took me up to 31 hours and the second time 28 hours in total... :(

Glad you had a fun time!!!!!

Oh... Which do you prefer: Koala or Kangaroohs? :D People always tend to have a preference! LOL. I know I'm always curious :giggle:

No. Blue Mountains is one of the list of places that I plan to go in my next trip there. Also I am told that there is a cave there so I want to go there. :)

I traveled between those cities by taking aboard Virgin Blues. These flights cost me only $180 in total. :)

Gold Coast and Brisbane are on my list of places in my next trip too. My friend has offered me to stay in one of his condos for free. :D

Koala, of course.

The Jenolan Caves are soooo beautiful! Yes, can't miss those. Also don't forget to get down Great Ocean Road to Port Campbell! You must take a helicopter trip around the area for some AMAZING pictures!!!!!!!

Cool your friend is offering you his condo to use... it will come in handy :cool2:

I prefer Kangaroohs :D
