Prison Riot Outbreak

Advocate staff writer David Brock is on the scene at Northpoint Training Center in Boyle County where a prison riot has broken out. At 9 p.m., Brock reported that Northpoint staff and Kentucky State Police were entering the complex with riot gear and were firing tear gas. Loud explosions could be heard along with demands over megaphones for the inmates to surrender.

Mendolyn Cochran, public information officer at the facility, said the prison has been on lockdown since Tuesday, when 10-15 Hispanic inmates assaulted a black inmate and a white inmate. The entire yard was locked down. Today, Cochran said the administration announced limited leniency, but at 6:30 p.m., inmates set fires in trash cans in the wings of one building. All inmates were called to the yard, where they continued to set fires in cans and destroyed property. At last report, two buildings, the canteen and the multi-purpose building, were ablaze. Cochran said no hostages had been taken and no injuries reported.

It's the buzz around here and from what I was told, that there are 4 guards which were killed during this riot outbreak and that there are 24 inmates on the loose. This is what I heard from others but it hasn't been confirmed. I will find out more as this story progresses. All I know is that 4 guards are confirmed to be dead.

Oh yikes! Not good!

My dad used to live in Kingston, Ontario when he was younger and Kingston is known for having a lot of prisons. While he lived there, the prison (this one I do believe was the one with the worst criminals) closest to his neighbourhood caught on fire and apparently some convicts escaped!

Wow! I am sorry to hear about that. Keep your doors and windows locked!

Yes, I'm definitely keeping my windows and doors locked.

I know the feeling, you will be fine sure there are loads of security to protect the residents. I know we had that same experience earlier this month frightening.
