I won't rent a movie unless it has CC on it. My TV is set up for Closed captioning. I wouldnt have it any other way. I stopped netflix because they weren't cc. My personal opinion is that every movie and tv show should be CC'd. What ticks me off is when sometimes Im watching TV and the CC is garbled and only a few correct letters appear. I never understood why that happens. Worse - I don't know who to complain to!
AMEN! Me too! It isn't a right, but if you want the business of a certain clientel (SP?) you must cater to that client. As a deaf client, I would like more CC items. How many D/d eaf people would love to have a fully captioned dvd rental base? I know I would. Netflix has movies in other languages, but not CC'd. I asked them about this months ago and got no reply. After waiting a very long time, I just cancelled with a good, long explanation of why. I guess this isn't the only forum to be discussing this issue. I was recently "using the phone" my i711 relay, and there is a new article on this subject there.

There is also an article on hearinginformed.org, Jamie Berke's about.com blog, and many others. I think this is now officially a Deaf topic. Ha, I think deaf network.com was by far the worst in the treatment of Netflix, calling a CEO an "Insensitive Bastard" after attending a share holder's meeting.
This is my favorite quote from the article "I then mentioned Netflix’s failure to add captions/subtitles to its online streaming videos. Netflix’s "instant play" option doesn’t include captions, making its online video option unusable for many users. As a result of not offering captions, Netflix is alienating its hearing-impaired, deaf, and senior citizen customers. According to some estimates, there are 34 million hearing-impaired persons in the United States. One would think Netflix would think better than to alienate such a large customer base."
A coworker rightly pointed out that Netflix caters to many demographics of marketing, glbt/trans, hispanic, foreign, so why shouldn't they want our money too? Pretty good point for a Hearie.
