Today,I made a really stupid mistake and goofed up at work. I am on job for 4 days and I'm a rookie Carrier.
I was at the station and sort out mail and planned to take off at 5:30pm (2 hr overtime
) cuz I had large volume of mail today. Just few min before clocking out. Something popped in my mind, I forgot to pick up mail at collection box 1/2 miles away. I took the scanner and ran to the LLV truck and drove on the way to Collection box (I was taking my time and for safety
). When I arrived to Collection box, I parked my LLV truck next to it. I went out and use "Arrow Key" (the key attached to long brass chain and it's chained to my belt strap) to open the box and took out tub of mail and clean out some mail fell on floor of Collection box. Then I scanned the barcode inside the box with scanner to confirm pickup. I was planning to go and get empty tub to replace 1/3 full tub (handful of mail in it). As soon as I stood up and about to walk away. I got yanked by chain that I totally forgotten that Arrow Key still in the lock and chain still attached to my belt strap!!!
I put down the tub and saw the key is bent  :Ohno: .. I pulled out the Arrow key and 1/2 of key was bent badly. I proceed to put tub in truck and realized that there's no tub in the truck (stupid of me!
) I decide to use rubber band and banded the mail and put it on tray next to driver seat then use same tub to return to Collection box. I closed the door but it won't close because the latch still up and it must have key to turn to unlatch to close it. I decide to fix the Arrow key. I found small hole on side of door that I can put part of key in and try to bend it straight.
Guess what happen! My key broke in half and the top part of key flew to sidewalk
I made the matter worst and how can I close the Collection door before I return and I'm still in Overtime
So I decide to take risk putting top half part of key in the keyhole (it fits in fully and the broken part is even with keyhole. I use bottom half of key and push it and turn it, hoping it won't slip, I managed to get the latch down and closed the door. After closing the door, I wanted the top part of key out, I banged the door next to keyhole and finally it fell into my hand.
. I went ahead and drove back to Station and met with my supervisor and let her know I broke the Arrow Key. I apologized and was  about it. She laughed at me and told me just fill out order to repair form and have the key replaced plus the lock. Whew!!
I handed the key back to Registry Clerk who is responsible for security item. He saw and laughed at me for my stupid mistake
Then I return to my supervisor and she told me just go home bye!
Sheesh that's my dumb rookie mistake!! I should have known that Arrow Key with long chain always attached to my belt strap while on job.

I was about to flush it but I wouldn't take risk cuz I am in Lawyer's office. I went ahead and picked up the mace with end of fingers and put it under faucet with running water and I pumped loads of foamy soap and washed the mace well then rinsed it.
