I was discriminated at the hair salon today (Friday)...

due to the fact that I don't go to church.

Geez, I came in to get my hair cut and was refused service simply because they won't do business with people who doesn't go to church. How mature.

LMAO
i love it when you said that, - how mature....

you have a sense of humour, dont ever lose that, you got it, and you are funny.Although i know this situation is not a laughing matter OK.
let us know how you got on

Cheers

I don't know what to make out of this, I don't know if you're taking this all the wrong way or assume that they're trying to pressured you in going to church. There are often many times I've went to a hair salon, the person who cuts your hair always starts off with a conversation, and keeps it going so that you won't be bored, but this is the first time ever that I've heard any persons had preached about religious at a hair salon. If it had happened the way you said, then I report them.

If I went to any business that ask me if I know Jesus, I would love to say to the person, no I do not know him , but you look good for your age , are you selling whatever you're taking to to stay so young looking! Then I would walk out !

What a bunch of self-righteous hoity-toity women. Whether I go to church or not is none of their business...their job is to cut my hair and that's it. It's a HAIR SALON not a church. It's not even Sunday, either. Geez. I guess I should have simply said that it was not a subject I wished to discuss but I have a feeling they would press on the subject until they got an answer they wanted to hear. Some people are like that.

it's because they are superstitious. Religious people like that do not like to touch "soul-less" person's hair. It's superstitious thing.

plus - I recall a story similar to this - Hairdresser is sued for refusing a job to woman in a headscarf

That's really stupidiest service I've ever heard of for a hair salon.

I think they messed with the wrong person. In addition to reporting them to the BBB you should also report them for discrimination.

I wasn't even in the chair when they started this shit...it was WHILE we were discussing how I wanted my hair cut, I was still standing up. And they're actually INSISTING that I go to church and that they WON'T cut my hair until I began going to church.

Sounds really strange and weird to me...never have encountered something like this, and I've been around a while!...I know that are some people that are "overly religious" and zealous about their Church. And some business do have religious signs all over their walls. I take it with a grain of salt when asked if I attend Church, etc., and make my answers "short".

But to refuse "service" to someone because they don't attend Church? Strange to me!

At one time, a co-worker, who was overly religious keep "hounding" me about Church, and I became frustrated, and told my boss about it. My boss "gave me a lesson" in humanity, and said...."He's just overly religious. He means no harm! Just say "Thank You" and walk away....which I did afterwards, and the guy got the message, without me having to curse him out!

Some of my old time friends are deeply into religion now, also, and before they never were. But I did not cut my friendship with them. I accepted it. But kept my own ideals to myself.

But to walk into a Hair Salon, and have them tell me they would not cut my hair unless "I went to a Church, or to their Church".....something's not right there! I would have just said, "OH, well, thank you". And walk out! and never go there again....Let them "cut their own throats" because their business will suffer.

Well if they meant no harm then it doesn't make sense that they refused service to me just because I don't go to church...whether I go or not isn't really their business to start with.

PUN INTENDED---> Anyone with a haircut like yours must be a Godless sinner... you should go to catholic church Lucia. You have nothing to worry about. The priest's only rape boys. <----PUN INTENDED

Yeah, the place had a lot of religion overtones to it but I thought no matter, I didn't realize it was going to be an issue, I didn't realize they were going to actually REFUSE SERVICE based on the fact that I don't go to church, I didn't realize they were going to be so nosy and straightforward and actually ask me whether I went to church or not. I mean, I can respect religious decorations and whatnot, but someone asking me that question and then refusing service because they got an answer they did not like, well that crosses the line. I didn't care what they had on their walls or whatever, all I wanted was for my hair to be cut. But they refused service just because I don't go to church...that's a new one for me personally.

Interesting. have you considering talking to the manager of this saloon and let them know how the two people who works there treats you like that?? that is so bizarre how they approached you and asked all of personal questions. im sorry.

I don't know who the manager is and I highly doubt they would allow me back into the shop to ask because they told me to get out yesterday.

U should have told them I only go to deaf church.

That's a new one for me. Religion in a hair salon? Usually those places are the last places for anyone to preach religion as hair salons are usually about vainity. Did the name of it have any religous tones to it?

No, the name had no religious tones to it, but there were religious literature and stuff all over the place inside the shop, but I did not realize it was going to be such an issue. I mean they do have the right to put up that stuff up but I still think refusing service to me just because I do not go to church is still discrimination.

Incorrect, how can you get harrassed on basis of religion?, a REFUSAL to serve on basis of religion IS discrimination. Discrimination is usually done on the grounds of race, age, sex, religion, disability attributes. Harrassment my ass, dont make me laugh.

Thank you.

Um I don't go to ANY church.
Yeah I know. just shut them hell up. It works for me many time when someone push me into join their religion. I said I only go to deaf church if they have one. End of discussion there cuz they have no clue how to respond to my answer to them. I dont go to church either.
