WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A newborn is being cared for at a hospital after being found abandoned — umbilical cord still attached — in a West Springfield motel room littered with empty beer cans.

Police said the baby was discovered early Saturday by a couple returning to the room next door at the Welcome Inn.

Kimberly Dougherty told the Republican newspaper of Springfield that she heard a weak cry coming from the next room. The door was ajar and when she entered, she found the baby girl lying on her back in the middle of a double bed.

Dougherty said she and her husband wrapped the baby in towels until paramedics arrived and took the infant to Baystate Medical Center.

Dougherty guessed that the baby was only an hour or two old.

Investigators are trying to track down the mother.

Ugh... Not again. I pray there is a speical solution for everything is related to women and girls... for their children's sakes. I prefer to see something could help people better...

I hate reading such kind of news!!! I should not open those threads at all... make me :( and :mad2:

And another child brought into a world where momma simply didn't care. She'll end up in foster care unless a family with deep pockets is willing to adopt her immediately.

I can't imagine how any woman could abandon a newborn child...or any chld for that matter.

Even animals take better care of their babies than some "so called humans" do!

My 3 boys (that I adopted), were abandoned, left in an apt., for 2 weeks. Their mother was a crack and alcohol addict. She only "thought of herself".

Some mothers who abandon their babies/kids are saying "I didn't know what else to do".....I don't buy it! And I don't "feel sorry" for the mother, either.

If you choose to create a life, then you are to be responsible to take care of that child....if you can't, then take them to someone who can or who is willing to do so. There is help to be found. Throwing them beside a isolated dirt road, or leaving a newborn in a motel room with beer cans everywhere.... these mothers were "not humans"....they are monsters! Leaving the babies to die of starvation!....I say "lock them up and throw away the key"!!

People would be fighting to adopt an infant. :D

That is the only good news.

Sad thing is... The room was littered with beer cans. I sure hope this infants health is in good condition, and does not suffer from any ailments, like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

FAS will certainly reduce the chances of this baby ending up adopted.

Yes and the child will have learning disabilities that will go untreated for years while in foster care. This kid certainly got a rough start in life - he's going to have a rough ride for sure unless a loving family steps in straightway and will give him what he is going to need lots of - stability and structure.
