UA: Overweight Passeners charged 2 seats

I really dont know what to think of this. I can see from both perspectives. Tough issue.

Don't know if it's fair or not but it does come down to $$$. If an overweight passenger takes up two seats but only pays for one.. well, the airline looses money.

Well, I don't think it is fair. They can make a little bit more room inside the planes since I've seen some planes have very "narrow" aisles ~ IMO

I'm not particulary suprised by this course of action.

I am not surprised by this course of action, either -- but, there's always other option due to health reasons, not just because of their "grossly" overweight.

Its really hard to say, I was thinking of people who have a medical condition and under doctor's orders for a weight problem. I don't think it would be fair to those people to pay double. Maybe, they can prove it with the doctors note.

Right, I agree -- maybe, they should. There's another way to take care of.

I am not trying to defend US Airliner but take both sides. I understand where US Airliner comes from and also understand obese people come from as well.

I have to pay extra charge for heavy luggage which it suppose to be 20 kg. I also have to pay extra seat for my 2 years old toddler.

If someone needs 2 seats, then they have to pay for them. They can´t expect other seat for free.

It mean that you get half a seat if a obese person sit next you? It make obese person feel uncomfortable to sit next you that´s why they need 2 seats for themselves but they have to pay extra seat..

Made fun of your height ? How ? I don't see anythin' that's showin' how grossly you are with your bein' tall.

My fiance is 6' 4" tall and no body is makin' fun of him.

wow

I as 5,5 tall and look up to 6,4 feet taller person... How tall you are? If your height is same as mine, climb up and :cuddle: him :naughty:

I never thought about make fun of anyone´s height...

I wonder - what about your German airlines? do they charge obese people for double seats too?

Unfortunlately, I don´t know and never heard about this until this thread here for a first time... I would answer your question if I know but I don´t know... I will check with German websites on this later.

Check with German websites over Airline but I receive no answer to my questions.

After discuss with my family during breakfast time.

We assume that German airlines also charge 2 seats for obese person who want to have 2 seats, too like what they charge us extra seat for 2 years old toddler and heavy luggage. I have no problem with that if they does. Accord German Airline law, they are obligate to inform you how big seat is and belt etc if they notice obese person.

I would share my knowledge if one obese person go to media to make a complaint against airline, news or whatever but I heard none.

My hubby said that he would demand his right to get 1/2 price if he sit half of a seat to next obese person who need one and half seat. He can´t sit half of seat for long hours... :Ohno: I have to give him right like what I say at earlier that I need to listen both sides.

The airline business would go bankrupt if they charge one ticket for 2 seats to each obsese person. Is it right?

The TV news spread out few months ago saying that every planes including international airlines need spare seat per a person to make feel comforable and can sleep...

*shrugs* I'm sorry for Airlines and the overweight people in this issue.

Life isnt fair. They have their reasons. They try the best they can to offer as much help as they can for anyone who take the flight on the plane. They cant change the rules for overweight people who can take more than one seat in the plane since of course everyone have to pay for one seat per person. If the overweight person cant fit in one seat, then have to pay extra to make room. I dont know if its really possible for them to widen the seats like the theatres did. If they do, then they would have to widen the whole plane as well to give much more room and that cost more money.

I'm sorry its just the way it is. I have a few friends who are overweight as some cant even fit in the roller coaster at an amusement park. :/ I know its sad and cruel but thats life.

While it is true that America appears to be gaining weight, and that's not really good. Indeed we all have to be responsible for our health and all. It is true that there are some people who gain weight which is not from eatting but from health problems or by drugs' side effects and such...so there are some people who cant help the weight problem while others can lose weight. *shrugs*

I'm sorry for the overweight ppl who may have to charge extra for the seats...perhas there can be other ways to take a trip such as train or bus or whatever suitable for some overweight people.

That's nothing news. In 1980's, someone told me that my family-in-law's friend paid for 2 seat because she is fat!!

Airline companies don't have policy like that in 80's but just customer's responsible.

I am kinda of support that issue. I didn't mean sound rude but due people who overweight have no respect too.

I have travel airline for many time. Sometime, when I see a overweight fat people walking to search sit. I do sometime, "please not let fat sit next to me"

Reason I say that.. I am get tired being crow and I am their arm rest like their arm over me. I am try comfortable while I flight the trip for 40 minutes... Start get tired of people being overweight.

At same time, my wrist just right size to fit chair, I don't like it.. they need about 6 inches wide little more. I am just little overweight not the HUGE....

Sometime I have fear about HUGE person on board and afraid that plane wouldn't lift us off the ground.... See... It kind impact my negative trip because crow and not enough sit for me to sit.. if he/she order two seat... no problem but one sit and next to me.. no air for me, no cool comfortable for me.. how that fair? Know what I am saying?

I am only 5' 1" tall. :)

I remember just a few years back. When you were only charged for one seat, if you held your small child in your lap. They did not charge for your child.

I sense this to be a very delicate subject, but think that the airlines should charge two seats. I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting next to a large person and having to share part of my seat with them. Economy class is all I can afford and the spaces are already very tiny...

Hmmm... as said, very delicate subject in my POV because some people have health issues...

well, how often do you see obese person taking flights? It's usually just 1 or 2 per flights so no the airline business will not go bankrupt over this (but because we'll bail them out anyway ).

beside have you seen the cost of airline ticket?

Well, my friend and I discussed about the issue....he's a airplane freak. He suggested that big people should have special seats all the way in the back of the plane because the narrower part of the plane is in the back....for example regular size seats are 6 seats and the back seats should be 4 seats instead of 6. The bathroom isn't designed for overweight people is a joke also.
