Did You Know???????

I disagreed with your statement - " Supercomputers could control people all over the world." why would it? been watching too much sci-fi movies like Terminator, Matrix, Space Odyssey, I AM ROBOT, etc?

Never mind, if we don't perspect/view the same thing.

It's not from the link where I copied from. Those are my own words. Please, ask first before you make an assumption or conclusion.

ah-ha.. my apology. well then... Let me tell you this - I am the IT professional for the last several years and I work with computers and I program for living. I can tell you that most of your definition & statement of supercomputer are mostly wrong. I don't think you understand exactly how the supercomputer works.

1. supercomputer NEEDS to be controlled by humans to function
2. in order for supercomputer/computer to function - it requires programmings from humans. It is impossible for computers to have "illogical" functioning - a singular trait that only humans can possess

some of your statements are correct:
A machine to solve yesterday's problems at today's speeds.
A Supercomputer is the one that runs your problem(s) the fastest.
a very common mistake. Machine is a very primitive form of computer. It's usually mostly mechanical with or without computer system. For example - construction vehicle, car, airplane, power tool, hearing aids. Those are not designed to solve yesterday's problems at today's speeds. the :type: you're using to post in AD is called a "computer" or "PC" or "workstation" or whatsoever but we do not call it "machine." Supercomputer is a commonly misunderstood term nowadays. I'm sure that you are envisioning "supercomputer" as a massive server with big cables connecting to it with many lights glowing. Did you know several playstations connecting together can be a supercomputer? Saddam did that to build AA defense system.

And, of course on the other hand it can be fun for games, and such.
well - first of all.. supercomputer costs MILLIONS of dollars to build and it requires a massive facility to cool it and to power it. But yes - some government agencies do use it to play "games." They use it to run the possible scenarios in the future such as nuclear war, asteroid hit, etc. Certainly.... it's not for entertainment purpose :)

and your statements are wrong:

That means in our future, it can control us and people from all over the world. Look at survelliance cameras in many places (Post offices, stores, etc.). It's through computer to control by keepin' an eye on us and people. It controls people's crimes and what have they. Look at airports, they have that thing to check people's stuff and body.
the security guards are the one who control computers to monitor people. :)

Scientists can put DNA in supercomputer to be like a human brain. Things that they do stuff to surpass knowledge and control. It controls people from stealin', and many more. Scientists can build "knowledge" microchip in supercomputer to recognize things.
ah... yes.. the DNA COMPUTING. a very very interesting concept that scientists came up. I can see where you're confused about. Yes I have heard of scientists trying to build a CPU based on DNA. You misunderstood it. They did not use actual human DNA to build CPU. They MIMICKED the process of DNA because it is efficient. Right now - CPU is operated by 1 and 0 (on-off). It is inefficient and it has the limit. DNA has 4 codes (A-T/C-G). They are trying Quantum Computing (based on light) as well.

and lastly..... did you know the most powerful supercomputer in the world is..... the human brain? :) after all.... the human brain built spaceships, rockets, satellites, supercomputers, etc. etc. etc. etc. :cool2:

Jiro,

You are right that it is not possible for the supercomputers to run and watch us like Big Brother. We have been watching too many science fiction movies like in the movie, I am trying to remember the title of the movie which I think it is called SPACE: 2000, but it is about a supercomputer named "Hal" on the space station which it becomes alive by itself without human being like the astronaut. And another old movie (1984) which is actually was made for making the film back in 1948(not sure if that is correct) about Big Brother watching by survelience camera put on TV whether they are outside or at home. I think we are just crazy to believe that it is what it is going to happen to us in the future. I just hope that will never happen in the near or far future.

Yeah, supercomputers cannot control people, it is just not feasible,
period. You are right, it is just science fiction, haha.

I understand everythin' you explained that it is controlled by humans. I was talkin' about in our future. Our future is goin' to be MUCH WORSE advanced than what's today. Everythin' is goin' to be MUCH MORE faster like one blink eye...or shall I say LESS than one blink eye ? It also violated people's privacy. People will FEEL that they are bein' controlled through devices. Some people don't feel very comfortable, because of violatin' their privacy. Some people don't care and will go for it.

Computers help to save time consumin', too for many reasons. It controls time. I just learned that there's one country some people already have their thing like a tiny device under their skin to respond computers. They are bein' controlled by computers, so they can live their life very simple. I guess, they will sell their soul for ANYTHIN' to less pain in the neck or hassles or whatever. I think I believe it is in Spain - not positively sure. Will double check on this again myself to refresh my memory.

Of course, I know what you mean about by humans and that the humans are the ones who controlled the computers. I know what you were sayin'.. but, I am talkin' about our future is goin' to be much worse than that. Look at the video -- what happened ? It's the technology itself that cut the time short ( abbreviate the time in short ) ... I mean, waaay tooo fast and it will make everythin' OUTDATED in short time. How soon is short time ? I have no idea. It speeds the light. We can not make it to catch it up. Some people will buy new advanced things and not use old ones that are still workin' because, of other new stuff will outdate the old ones. Waste money. It's too competition.
It also will make people not to know what to buy that will outlast the new ones. Like for example: I like the one that has a computer in the table. Table computer and I thought it was awesome, but on a 2nd thought I will hold that because, you never know there will be a better one than that. It will make people's heads go spinnin'. Gee, when will the high advanced technology to go slow down ? I don't think if, it ever will.

It is very interstin' note on my perspective part. I look at people's children. Oh, boy -- they are far more exceed young to become adults under the age of 12 ?? or what ? I can't be sure of what exact YOUNG age that is for them to become adults, because of the advanced technology in children's lives nowdays. Scary thought for me. They will be an equal just like us, the adults. I can understand my picture in my mind, but I don't know how to put the words for you to understand my picture here. High advanced technology make the children to grow up tooo fast.

By the way, I can see that the time is bein' cut short in the video when it tells us what is goin' on in this world. Time is bein' abbreviated. They cut the " time wasted " off. It's very interestin' to see.

you forget WALL-E! :giggle:

what's this video you're talking about? I'd like to watch it

It is in OP's first post with a video " Did You Know ???? "

My first notice somethin' in that video was " We are livin' in exponential times " ... "By 2013, a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computational capabilities of the human brain" ... "Predictions are that by 2049, a $ 1,000 computer will exceed the computational capabilities of the entire human species".

And, of course I can see time is bein' cut short from the first beginnin' to the end in that video. It shows me that people are too slow to catch up with the advanced technology....OR is it our children that are catchin' up with the advanced technology than adults ?? High advanced technology make adults feel old while it makes the children feel young as adults...more surpass knowledge than adults ?? Is the advanced technology created children to become criminals such as hackers, or scammers, or frauders ?? There are many things that I could think of what the high advanced technology might do.
I will let you to watch the video once more and try to see what I mean. :)

oooo ok! :ty: I didn't even notice the correlation between OP's video and your statement. It's interesting to hear about your reaction from the video because my reaction to it is completely different. Let me try my best to dispel the fear from you :)

You misunderstood the concept of computational capabilities. It's merely talking about # of calculations it can perform at once.... not "thought" process. It doesn't mean it's smarter than humans.... just that it's able to compute faster than humans. It still needs to be programmed by humans. the "intelligence" of computers depends on the program created by humans. If the program is dumb, then computer is dumb. simple as that. In computer - intelligence is created, not learned or born. In human - intelligence is born/learned and growing - something that computer cannot do. Yes there's "Artificial Intelligence" but it has HUGE limitation and it doesn't function exactly like human brain. It is true that computer will exceed the human's computational capability eventually but it's still dumb. Just because computer's faster doesn't mean it's smarter. Speed and Cognition are 2 completely different things. :)

it's always our newborns learning newer technology and we old farts are too dumb to learn it :) It's called PROGRESSION. Our future generations are always more advanced than previous generation but when it comes to CORE part - they're all the same. We have same emotions, same DNA, and same patterns - we born, live, die. We are already in advanced technology and there are already bad hackers out there, stealing our identities and hacking into government computers. but we're still alive, right? at least the hacker didn't hack into some nuclear powerplant and cause a meltdown :laugh2: Of course people already expect that to happen which is why they're smarter than bad hackers and they built many safeguards to prevent that.

just remember - computer is a tool. we create computer as a tool to make our life easier. I see that you're worrying about many humans being controlled by computer because of some chips inside their skin but let me tell you this - many people were brain-washed and controlled by Hitler and it didn't even take a computer to do that. just a simple radio :)

Food for thought - there are 6.7 billion people in the world..... more than half of them do not own telephone/computer/tv and most has never used it once in their life. only barely barely barely 1% of world population owns a computer. the pattern will continue for centuries. so your concern about computers controlling humans because of chips inside their brains.... well let's just say more than half of populations will not be affected by this :)

And the sad fact is that there are many people that don't know how to use it.

They know how to worship an invisible man in the sky.
They know how to vote straight-party Republican.
They know which talk-radio personalities to worship.

But they don't know how to use their brain.

What a shock (not!).

Believe it or not, some religious fanatics believe that the Government
will put computer chips inside people, just to control people! I
know some deafies personally that belong to such church, really sad.
Just because they believe that computer will control people's minds,
unreal!

Well, Mistyrose -- don't forget that it already been invented and they did insert it under animals' skin. If, animal is lost or somethin', they will trace them through computer to find them while they have that thing under the animals' skin.

People will be next. It already happens in Spain I THINK -- I will check it at website myself to find it. I don't remember what part in Spain when I read about it at that time. I don't want to jump on that part until I find the article to be sure that I am correct. IF, find it then I will post it here. Ok ?

ah I know what you're talking about. it's called RFID. it has a very very very simple function. All it does it store the information and you wave the RFID reader over the area and it will retrieve the information from RFID implanted in the skin. it cannot control anything. It's just like an EZ-Pass electronic tag. it's same thing.
